Chevrolet Debuts All New Lightweight Corvette At New York International Auto Show
DETROIT - Chevrolet will introduce an all new lightweight Corvette at the New York International Auto Show.
"This product is to satisfy the hard core Corvette enthusiast with a stripped down lightweight Corvette based on the C6 coupe," said Gary L. Cowger, president of GM North America. We done everything we can think of to reduce the weight of the Corvette. It will be built with aluminum hydro-formed rails and have a Lexan rear window. We've stripped out all the frills: radio, a/c, power windows, power door locks, and even the passenger seat. We've upgraded the LS2 engine to 430HP and 430 ft-lbs of torque. The lightweight Corvette will come with the Z51 package standard and 6 speed manual transmission. There will be no optional equipment. The RPO code will be LW1".
Not everyone who wants a lightweight Corvette will be able to get one. First you must attend both the level 1 and level 2 classes at Bragg-Smith Corvette Driving school. After completion of the classes, the prospective owner will take a test in a lightweight Corvette to prove he or she is capable enough to properly handle the car. A prospective owner is allowed to take one retest after failing the first test. The test will be graded by Rupert Bragg-Smith. Upon successful completion of the test the prospective owner will be given a certificate which is required before any Chevrolet dealer can order a lightweight Corvette.
According to Cowger, "This will be a very special Corvette for an owner who has proven how to handle it."
Preliminary Specs: H.O LS2 with 430HP/430-ft-lbs Weight: 2536lbs 0-60: 3.6sec 1/4 mi: 11.5sec @122 mph Top Speed: 195mph

Like the GTS-R Viper and any decent performance car company SHOULD DO!!!
My friend got driving lessons from Nissan Canada when he purchassed his 300ZX TT,and the other that bought a 911 TT was flown down to the States somewhere to follow a driving course before being allowed pick up the car.
Will they be track only cars or Showroom stock strippers that are streetlegal?
If it is a April fool it is too bad,it would be a nice promo vehicle and could have a Vette challenge like the Ferraries have!!!

FERRARI BMW MERCEDES NISSAN Skyline GTR LOTUS ELISE
this is what I consider foreign.
CHARGER isn't out yet.
If there is more serious iron coming out of Detroit that I don't know about I can't use it as an example!!

TimeL-you disappoint me. Surely, there are more snakes on MArs than just Cobras.
Posted by TimeLord (Member # 1389) on :
Yes but to me they are aftermarket[to me]Saleen/Rousch !!
The Mach1's I have seen run are slow, the Bullitt is not a performance car, there are rumors of a killer mustang to compete with Viper but haven't seen any yet.
Like the NEXT Camaro when[IF EVER which I doubt]I see it I will believe it!!!
