I just went to the Ford World Headquarters Vehicle Service Center and when I was leaving noticed that this Jaguar S Type R has 2 rear brake calipers. The smaller one must be for the rear parking brake. Just looks too overengineered of a parking brake system not to mention how expensive it would be.

Spot calipers have been around for a long time.. and actually the engineering for it is simpler than a "shoe in hat" mechanical parking brake system..
They need to hit a car wash, that thing is DIRTY..

Didn't some of the older Jaguars hav the brake rotors toward the middle of the axle and not out at the wheels? I have a friend that had something like that years ago, and it seemed like an unusual system.

Have you seen the Volvo S60R? It has dual 6 piston calipers on 15 inch rotors....crazy.

The XKE and several others with independent rear suspension used inboard brakes to reduce the unsprung weight.
Dual calipers on large disc have been around sports racing for years.

That sure looks like corrosion on the aluminum wheels. If it is, that does not speak well for the quality of those wheels or the paint on them.
I believe the Jaguar XJS had inboard rear brakes. The one problem with inboard brakes is heat disapation.......there is none!!
The half shafts were also the upper link for the rear suspension. This meant that the U-joints took all the compressive loads, as well as, twisting forces from accelaration and braking.
Hhhhmmmm.......come to think of it, the rear suspension on the C4 is very similar.

Jaguar XKE's had "inboard" brake rotors located close to the rear differential. You see this a lot on hot rods who use the Jag differential too.
