Its a 1/64 diecast car made by Johnny Lightning.

Looks like a 98 vert with reverse 30th Anniversary stripes. This is a new release from their Motor Trend series 3. What I would like to know is how a Camaro like this made motor trend magazine? [Confused] It does not look correct to me. [Frown] Was a car like this ever produced for real and if it was does anyone have a link to share? Thanks gang! [Smile]

Diecast models don't always reflect a production vehicle. The Hot Rod Camaro you're referring to may have been a custom job. I have a 1:64 scale Hot Rod Magazine model that featured a red '98. It's packed away, so I can't get to it right now, but the one in the set you mention might be a re-run of that one.

Looks like they were trying to do a 35th and got the stripes wrong [Eek!]

Usually, a licensee presents us with a prototype for approval...the key word is 'usually'....

I suspect that the licensee in this case took an existing model and tried to make a 35th out of it.

Close, but no cigar.

the one that really makes me crazy is the '67 coupe (white) with Hugger Orange Z28 stripes....I think the intent was to capture the spirit of the '69 Indy Pace Car...the result....well, I'd rather not say..........

Well dudes Johnny Lightning did do a very nice 35th vert last year

It has all the correct features. The Camaro at the top of the thread is a new release from Motor Trend Magazine series. I'll try and look for a pic of one in a package on Ebay.

Here is a mistake! [Eek!]

 -

Notice the Camaro is a 97 but even the small replica of the Super Chevy mag says 98 Camaro?? [Confused]

So what I would like to know about the car at the top of the thread is did they make 1997 style stripes for 98 and up Camaros or do we have another mistake here?

I hear ya one that one! My biggest complaint on the 69 they did is that its a weak reproduction. The earlier castings J/L had were kinda hideous but here is the 69 pace car they did

 -

In 98 they made new castings and produced this simply gorgeous 67 [Razz]

 -

Here is all 4 pace cars. [Cool]

 -

And back to the original quote on the 69. They did make a new casting of that but have yet to do another 69 pace car with the new casting but here is the corrected 69 with the hugger orange stripes

I have a Johnny Lightning 1997 Impala SS at home. It is a dark cherry metalic 1:64 scale model of a 1996.

Yup, that's the one I was thinking of that I mentioned earlier. I don't understand why you're confused that a customized car is in Motor Trend. Aren't car magazines in the business of featuring customized cars?

I just never seen a 98 car with 97 style stripes thats all... Looks a bit weird to me but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The car might actually look better in person then in a small car like this. Congrats to the dude for getting his Camaro on a magazine and on a diecast....wish they would do mine [Roll Eyes]

What about the RS package that SLP did? They're called "Heritage Stripes".

Now that one I like a lot! The black stripes look totally awesome. Are we then looking at the same kind of car in the Motor trend issue? A 98 SLP RS?? I like the commentary in the link..." more than a second quicker than Burt's original Bandit Trans Am V-8. "

[Razz] [Big Grin]
