My advice would be to take it to the dealership and make sure they realize that you have the SLP Auburn option and not the stock Torsen. The fluids are different and if they end up treating it like a Torsen you will have all kinds of troubles like I did. I can't emphasize this enough!!!

You most likely have a leaking pinion... my 01 company car had that problem... so far my "personal" car an 02 has not yet... knock on wood.

It will be easy to tell if the fluid is comming from the pinion seal or the cover. Usually if the pinion seal was leaking,it would allow fluid to sling on to the floor pan.

My Saga was reported before on this board I have an auburn and the dealer put in syn lube,and then I looked at SLP service manual and it states dino oil in rear end, David Hamburger from SLP said "If they put syn lube in Auburn you will blow out diif" mine was changed back immediately to Dino oil!

Forgot also make sure it is from diff cover as sometimes it could be coming from vent on top of diff and dripping down!

Was the Auburn standard in all SS's? Mine doesn't have an SLP sticker that indicates it has an Auburn.
I just changed the rear end oil and used synthetic oil as per the owners manual. Now I'm concerned.

Auburns were second sticker content. If its not listed on the SLP sticker, you have the stock ZT unit which uses synth

Got under it today and #$%*#!! it's the Pinion seal. Here we go, the search for a dealer that can get it done right!
Yes it's the Auburn and it needs Dino oil. Any specs on what should be put in?

To add to the fun the engine rear main seal is starting to ooze. The spotless underneath of the SS is looking greasy! How common on the LS1 is the rear main seeping. Is it worth the trouble to consider fixing that? Oh yea, by the way, Still Love the Car!

Have not heard of the main seal leaking on one. I have had 3 SS cars and the only one that the pinion seal on the rear leaked was the 98 I had and they fixed it. My 2001 now has 63,000 miles on it and never has leaked anything anywhere still bone dry and cleaner than new and it has the auburn

Yeah thats odd.... the LS1 is vastly improved over earlier small blocks... espically in the area of engine sealing... you never hear of an oil leak on a LS1... now a LT1 is a whole nother story..... Posted by Mike2001SS (Member # 2088) on :
It may also be that the car sitting for so long the seal has dried out a little. As to the rear leak you better be sure they know what they are doing when they replace it. Alot of us have had major problems with the rear from them replacing it wrong. on my 98 they caused the rear to burn out and had to rebuild it all the way bearings and all
