In the last two days, every time I lock the car w/ the key fob, I get the two 'normal' chirps. There is then a pause of 3-5 seconds, & the horn sounds twice more (long tone, similar to the when the alarm is going off). It then shuts off by itself w/ the car still being locked & alarm armed.
I actually thought it might be a key fob malfunction, so I opened the door, hit the lock button, closed the door & the same scenario played out all over again.
Does anyone have ANY idea what might be causing this? It's somewhat embarassing to have the car chirp, then wait, honk twice more & stop (also, my neighbors sure won't appreciate it late at night). Any insight is much appreciated!!

You may be able to program the Remote Keyless Entry Module to turn off the horn chirp all together. Check your owners manual. Does it do that with both fobs? If not maybe your fob battery is low and sending a distorted signal to the RKE module. Posted by 2k1SS (Member # 2072) on :

I actually thought of doing this as a last resort (setting the mode to silent-arm). What was strange was that even when I didn't use the key fob at all (locked the doors manually), the car still went through this cycle.
The only thing I'm worried about is if it's trying to tell me something is wrong.

I have the factory shop manual and was looking thru it to see if I could come up with an answer for you. The entire system is controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). To properly diagnose the problem you are probably going to have to take it to a dealer and have some diagnostics run.But there are just a few things I saw which I will mention. It cautions on aftermarket equipment interfering with the BCM. Have you installed anything new lately? Next, try resynchronizing your transmitter with the BCM........you do this by pressing the lock and unlock buttons similtaneously for 8 seconds. I would also check out all the other functions to be sure they work. The Panic button should flash the lights and honk the horn......pressing it a second time should deactivate it. Check the rear hatch release to see if it works. Finally when locking your car, the interior lights should go out immediately. Check to see if they do. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

I actually did install SLP SFC's about 3 weeks ago.....but I will check out the things you mentioned above first (then go to the dealer as a last resort)
How exactly would SFC's possibly effect the BCM ?(I have no idea what the BCM does)

The aftermarket equipment would have to be something electrical or electronic. I don't think the SFC's have any bearing on your problem

Hmmmm....open the hatch...remove the spare tire cover...and find the mercury 'shock sensor' switch.....there is an adjustment on it that allows you to make the sensor 'less sensitive'...give that a try......

I have had some things like that happen to me. Turns out there is a manual cutoff switch for alarm under the dash, its also used in programming the options for the alarm and locking mode. I hit it with my knees a couple times a year, so im always having things like the lights turn off, or the horn come on, etc.
