let the wife drive the SS for two days and she ran over a curb and put a hole in the sidewall of one week old Cooper Zeon 2XS as well as putting a good two inch scrape in the wheel at the edge (where you mount a weight)
question is, what's the best way to smooth down the scrape.
i would guess the right bit on a dremel ? maybe some compound of a sort, too ?
figure someone here's got a fix Posted by SSHEETS (Member # 1989) on :
I hate to admit this, but I had a little scrape on one of my wheels. I used some Scotch brite pad and some 1,000 grit wet and dry. I then polished it up with the Dremel...it looks a lot better.
I called my Chrome shop to see if he would polish it out, but he wouldn't touch it Posted by Sizzle (Member # 503) on :
My SS and ATM's that are in the drivethrough lane do not mix.

If I had access to a drum brake lathe,I would mount the rim on it and turn the wheel edge then clean the wheel real good and re clear coat it. I have one 35th Anniversary LE wheel that had curb rash when I took delivery of the car. One day I will repair it.

Once you get that fixed ban her from your car. Posted by Teri9672 (Member # 1541) on :
I just did the same thing to my Z06 wheel today. Our parking at work is really tight. I always try to get an end spot so I only have potential side for a door ding. I ran too close to the curb and put a huge scuff on my rim. It really made me mad, but what can ya do????? ;(

I caught one of my 10 spokes on a curb like a month after taking delivery of the car. Sucks so bad but what can you do, things happen. Posted by Cavy Dan (Member # 1352) on :
Got one of my painted 10-spokes on a very low curb once. I was able to use fine grit sandpaper and those scotch brite pads to buff it out. Never was able to find the paint though for the wheels. Posted by Teri9672 (Member # 1541) on :
since my wheels are chrome, I can't do anything to try to get the scuff out Posted by SSHEETS (Member # 1989) on :

Mine are the Chrome ZR1s It's amazing what you can buff out on chrome..of course I did it while I was getting new tires and I had the wheel without the tire on it to work on. Mine is hardly noticeble, if you look closely you can see it, but certainly not at a glance nor to the average car owner.
