How on EARTH do you guys get your cars to stay SO FREAKKIN' CLEAN???

OK...I get him all washed and dried and zainoed....and then I wipe the zaino off with the requisite white cotton towel....then I let him sit there all polished & pretty for a bit while I go in and get a drink (of water, Ed... )

.....then I go back out to do the interior and what do I see?? DRRRRRRRRIP..... one or two d@mn drips which came out of nowhere and have now dried into lovely water spot trails.....

My car is filthy as we speak.

My cover needs to be washed... everytime it rains, it leaves a caked on pollen mess and the car has to be washed again.

I use an air compressor to get all the water out of the hiding spots. No more surprise water spots for me.

Z6 will definitely take care of water spots though.

Going to have to try that leaf blower or shop vac idea....and driving around the block....

and yeah, I HAD to have black.....I DO love it, tho....just high-maintenance (unlike me...)

Black Cars are only clean right after they are washed.....unless you happen to wash your car under an oak tree and notice tree sap on it right after you are done and have to do it over again........that's what happened to me yesterday!

Seriously, an air compressor to blow water out of all the crevices does an excellent job. And Z6 will help the anti-static problems somewhat so you don't pick up as much dust. A California Car duster is a must for those in-between-washes times.

My SS stays real clean because it's in the garage most of the time.

Too much traffic around here, with too many stupid drivers.

Now both Chevy's have become 'weekend' cars.

Well at least the SS- every time I finish one 'project' on the Vette, I find some other 'project' to disassemble some other part of it....at least it keeps me amused.

The drips usuall come from a couple of known spots - tail lights, trunk etc., so I just crease the towel, and run it down the seam, and for the trunk - open and dry in there first.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!! Well....now that he's all clean and pretty....there are severe thunderstorms heading toward Arlington.....and Power Tour....and we're supposed to get more storms tomorrow afternoon before we leave for Tulsa.

Can't win!!! hahaha!!! I AM taking all my Zaino stuff, tho.....

Absolutely! As soon as you have finished washing the car and are ready to dry it off, open the hatch and let all the runoff drip onto the rear quarter panels (hopefully! ).Dry the back bumper off last. Keep the damp towel in your hatch to wipe the bumper clean each time you open or close a door, or open/close the hatch!

I know much of it has been covered, but my tips that I've gained so far with my black SS. In drying, I first use a California Water Blade on the larger panels (yes, they WILL scratch if not perfectly clean, so you may not want to use this). I then use a chamois (also have to be sure there is no dirt you're draggin...will also scratch). If you use a towel, no big deal...same concept.

Dry all you can see, then open doors and hatch and dry those areas. After closing hatch I run the chamois under the spoiler and grab it on the other side...kinda reminds me of flossing to get all the water from under the spoiler. Then, blow out right up under the taillights...this is where most water on the bumper comes from. I usually have to blow it out then wipe the water twice. Using an air compressor also works. Then, tap repeatedly below the side marker lights and water will come from below them. Wipe off. The water streaks under the mirrors actually does not come from around the mirror...if you look right between the back of the mirror housing and the front fender, there is a little "shelf" that water likes to sit on. I can just barely fit a finger in that crack to wipe off this spot.

I've tried the method of driving to release the water, and was not impressed. First off, the bumper on these cars is like a shelf for dust. The slightest bit of driving (~1/3 mile around my neighborhood) will throw dust on the bumper, which can be seen easily on a black car. Then when you wipe this off, you're likely putting swirls in your bumper from the dust. Also, driving a short distance only releases some of the water...air needs to be blown directly under the taillights and you must reach to get the water from behind the mirrors.

Of course you know how black is with dust. Not a problem provided it's only dust making your car dirty...lightly rub down the car with a California Car Duster, then Z6. Perfect Zaino shine!

Now, how to prevent those rock chips.....

I usually use Greg's method - guess I'm lazy!

Wash, drive around the block, then dry. Always
due under the hood, in the hatch area and door
jams. Then no water spots!

You are suppose to put Z6 on after the polish. Like the others said. Water collection spots are tail lights,rear side markers,hatch,outside lock and front parking lights.

My 215mph leafblower does the trick. Then I let it sit in the garage until the next day then everything is dry.
