I am going to order Zaino. I had the Meguires 3 step process. What would be the same in Zaino? What else would you guys/gals recommend?

I used the Meguiar's deep crystal system on my 97 Z28 and was pretty happy with it until I tried the Zaino after being schooled on the old SLP forum while waiting for my 02 SS to be built. Zaino takes a bit more time, but the results are awesome. My SS is 2 1/2 years old now, and it is still as smooth and shines as deeply as day one, even better! Strip off all the old waxes with Dawn, claybar it, wash it again with Dawn, then go to town with Z5 and finish up with Z2. The Z5 and Z2 are interchangeable. The 5 is the swirl remover, and the 2 is the show car polish. Use the Z6 spray in between coats and as a detailing spray in between (I used to use Quik Detailer, but now only the Z6) and you'll look showcar shiny! Good luck. This is a quick overview, go to the Zaino bros. website for more explicit instructions, including use of ZFX flashcure for the Z2 and Z5.

What he said....with some other thoughts/changes.

First, wash the car twice w/ 'Blue' Dawn. Then clay it(mix a spray bottle w/ half water and Z-7 as a clay lube). Wash with Z-7, then use the 'new' Z-5(its a white bottle) with the ZFX flash cure. You have a NBM so you don't really need Z-2, I have a bottle that I use on the wheels and I mixed the 'old' Z-5 w/ Z-2. Get the Z-6(mix this 50/50 w/ distilled water...as per Sal Zaino) and use between coats and whenever.

To recap, you need ZFX, Z-5, Z-6, Z-7, Z-10(?..tirecleaner), Z-18(clay bar). The leather cleaner and conditioner are nice also....

Have fun, as anyone will tell you, once you 'get it down' it doesn't take that long.

Tom

I must be doing something wrong. I find Zaino to be the easiest and least time consuming 'wax' I have ever used, bar none. True the first prep of the car can take a bit of time but after that it's a breeze. I don't think I ever just wash the car anymore. After I dry the car I put on a coat of either Z5 or Z2, pull it in the garage, and next morning polish it before work. Takes all of about 3 or 4 minutes to buff it out with a bath towel. Zaino comes off so much easier than wax it's amazing to think I wasted my time with anything else before. And yes you can get a mirror finish like Ken C's.

I agree! Doesnt take long at all. It's just the initial process thats a lil time consuming. After that, I can wash the car and put a later of wax on in an hour! Come back a few hours later and buff it clean. [Cool]

And ya gotta LOVE balck cars!!!

Went to a Vette show last Sunday and due to the crappy weather I took my wife's '96 driver. Rained preaty hard during the drive to the show, and then some drizzle on and off all day. Entered in a wash and show class. Parked by a guy with a black ZR1 and a guy with a '96 Collecter conv't. We all looked at one another when all we did was wipe down the cars with a little water from spray bottles and watched most of the other 60 or so enterants working like crazy all day. I took third the ZR1 took second and the Collecter took fist. Bet you guessed by now, we all are Zaino users. Stuff is amazing.

Faster AND I've found that you don't get all that much residue left on the towels like you do with other brands...

Zaino is by far the best overall that I've found in about 35 years and dozens of products. That Kermie boy turned me onto it before it was even mentioned on message boards. I think that was in 97.

Never had heard of the stuff until I was looking to order an F-Body. Heard about it on web sites much like this one. I find it the easiest to use, lasts, well I put numerous coats on a year so I guess it will last until it is gone. Plus it makes the car look so pristine and clean. People are alwasy asking me about my custom paint job. I just tell them it is stock and I use Zaino... Could go on, nuff said from me.

I have used Simoniz,Blue Coral,Turtle Wax,Mothers and every other polish known but the best ever is ZAINO easy to appy and the shine is miles deep use it the very best. Have you noticed many other polish companies are coming out with new firmulations because of Zaino. They can compete but Zaino is still #1

Alrighty ! I've been satisfied (so-so) with Mequires, and hate ordering and waiting. Tried to buy Zaino from local guy, but he's always flaked out, not returned calls, etc...

So I finally just placed my 1st Zaino order for the Z-2, Z-5, Z18 clay bar. [Big Grin]

Also gave this site a "plug" on the order form [Wink]

If you read my post up top, you'd realize you forgot somethings....ZFX, Z-6(are definites) and I see you have a black car, so Z-2 wasn't (really) needed

Thanks Tom. I want to use Z2 on my '89 V-Blazer, it's got some marks in the clear coat from brush in the mountains.
ZFX flash cure makes that much of a differnce ?

OK, will add to order.

p.s. when I think of the Steelers, it reminds me of the Iron Curtain [Big Grin]

The z-5 is the swirl-remover/scratch repair. You can use the Z-2 on light colored cars (and also dark...little better shine). Since you ordered it, you can use it on the wheels or after you build up the coats of Z-5(5+). The ZFX does make a difference in shine(plus you can skip the Z-1 base coat..so definitely get it). And it 'dries/cures' faster and you can put 3 coats on your car in 24hrs. You need Z-6....And just follow the posts from above [Big Grin]

Go Steelers [Cool]

Don't forget the Z-7 car wash, it has a small amount of polish in it and helps maintain the finish every time you wash the car.
