My wife and I were removing rocks from the dirt in front of the house. She found what appears to be a pinion gear from something buried in the ground. My guess is that it came from some old farm machinery since my house sits where an old farm used to be.

looks similar to a drill head to me, but not quite. Itt does not have the full cogs and teeth like they use to drill oil wells
maybe a piece of a windmill to grind grain for flour, or some old farm equipment piece I reckon

It's hard to say. When I bought my land in Ohio it was an old farm once and was littered with lots of old stuff. Some of it you could even tell was from horse drawn equipment. I even asked some of the old time farmer neighbors what this stuff was and all they could do was guess at it. Clean it up and you will find a way to use it somewhere in your general landscaping. I did that with a few pieces of my stuff too. It makes for some interesting conversation pieces!

I concur. Its definetly not a well-drill, but it does look like an rpm changer gear for some kind of traactor accessory.

Actually that is a pinion gear for the final drive out of a tracked tractor or bulldozer.

Thanks! Looks way too bug to be on any car or truck. I threw it out last night and it must have weighed enough when the garbage man arrived to empty the can, the handle broke off the can!
