Good morning. Working on a car today and then trying to finsh the interior work in the garage. I can't wait till this is all done. There are trucks and contractors here everyday, I am tired of planning and working around them!

Mornin' all...I'm jonesin' for a track fix. With all the house stuff, I'm hoping we can afford for me to do a track day this year.

Hi ya. We're going to have someone over at the house this weekend to do some rock chip repair on a few cars, including the SS (remember that HUGE rock chip we got in Wyoming on our way back from B.G. 2002?). We parked it and haven't driven it since for fear of the crack spreading. I am really hoping the windshield can be repaired instead of replaced. I've heard horror stories from people with convertibles, having a windshield replaced, ending up with a bent/tweaked windshield header and subsequently the top never fits right again. I DON'T want that to happen to our SS.

Teri, when you call the glass shop, ask if there is anyone there that knows the correct way to replace the glass in a 4th Gen Camaro. That is what I did when my windshield stress cracked. The glass shop insured me they would have their best people work on my glass. So far to this day, I have not had any windshield related concerns. I also advised them I was their pickiest customer and will be looking the car over very closely when they are done. [Smile]

Uh Oh!! Are those anecdotal horror stories or people you know? I'm scheduled to have the windshield on the SS replaced Monday because of a crack we picked up on Tuesday. [Frown]

that chips looks to big to be repaired. We deal
with glass repair/replacement all the time.

The glass shops around here are very good and
we have not had complaint in years with leaks
etc.

Every shop I've asked has said, "Oh, yeah...we can do that." I just didn't have a good feeling about them. We are concerned about the white top and leather getting goo all over them and worried about the paint (I know how NOT careful these guys are). We haven't found anyone we're comfortable leaving the car with, and I know they don't want us standing over them, either.

It happened to some friends of ours who had a '97 Anniversary Convertible. Their top would not close correctly after the windshield shop bent the surrounding header when installing the glass. The car was never the same.

There was always a water and wind leak after that. They were so disappointed by it all they ended up selling the car and wouldn't buy another Camaro after that (they bought a Saleen Mustang).

That's what we're afraid of. We're hoping this guy will be able to attempt a repair and if it doesn't work, then we'll (regretably) go the replacement route.

I haven't had such luck in finding someone I'm confident can replace the windshield. Everyone I've talked to comes across as an idiot. It's frustrating. If there's anyone in the Portland, OR area who can replace the windshield without destroying our white top or white interior, or screw up the paint, I'm willing to talk to them.

I've seen kits here to repair glass, and some friends have done it themselves. Quite well I might add, couldn't even tell where the damage was. But they recommend nothing bigger than a quarter for the size of the damage to be repaired.
