We just picked up an '04 Suburban(Silver Birch Met.) and I want to do trhe 'complete process' w/ Zaino.......but I'm out of Z-7 (Wash). I'm going to postpone the 'complete process' until next week.

In the meantime I want to wash it (closed the dealer last night & didn't have time for prep).

What is a good wash I could pick up at an Autozone????

Or should I just wash it("strip it",)for now, with Blue Dawn?

Also, since my cars have been dark colors, I got away from Z-2. Is the 'new' Z-5 fine or do I need to get Z-2, since the car is silver?

Thanks,

Tom

I would just wash it with Dawn. That will get it as clean as possible before you start the Zaino process. They even recommends you clay a brand new car also to get rid of any contaminents such as rail dust that tends to get imbeded in the paint.

Get ZFX (if you don't have any) and mix it with Z-2 for your first few coats........or you can use Z-1 for your first coat if you have some. With silver I don't see any need for Z-5, at least on a new car.

Thanks.

I was concern that the dawn would 'strip it'(unprotected for a week or so)...

I have ZFX and everything but Z-2. I heard the Z-5 is 'more durable' than Z-2 and the 'new' Z-5 has a better shine that Z-2....

yeps he hit the nail on the head, Wash with what ever you want for now, then use the dawn and make sure you clay before the Z gos on. Also ZFX is the way to go with tht e Zstuff, I like Z5 of a daily driver, I think it is "thicker" and may last alittle longer. Just my 02$ [Smile] post pics!!

Z-5 or Z-2.........the choice is yours. I would read what Zaino has on their web site about the two products and then make your choice.

Tom, stay away from Dawn until youre ready to zaino.

Dawn will strip off any wax the dealer put on.

I kind of agree with Chris - although it shouldn't matter for a week - why strip the stuff off now, it only make it harder to re-wash when you're ready. Get mothers or something from autozone. You'll need the z-7 for the clay process though.

You do NOT want to strip off anything if the car will be outside... trust me.

When we picked up Kim's Mustang, I specifically told the dealer not to wax the car. It was 15 days until I was able to Zaino the car, and it took me 8 hours to clay & prep the damn thing. Water spots, bugs, insect droppings, and worst of all TREE SAP.

It was awful... [Mad]

Maquires (sp?) makes a nice gel car wash, pink in color.

I've switched from Zaino to Meguiar's NXT Generation. My opinion is that it is a much better product than Zaino... easier to work with and better gloss.

And with that, we start the polish wars [Big Grin]

Nah, what could be easier than Zaino with ZFX. BTW Tom, if you're at Bear Mtn I can bring some wash, etc.
