First of all, this is my first post, and i think this is a great board, lots of useful info.

O.k. so some loser slices my top, in an effort to steal my car tonight. Fortunately an unsuccessful auto-theft attempt, but now my top is ruined I still have full coverage, but i would have to pay my $500. deductible, & i know my dealer will quote some outrageous price to replace it. I checked gm parts direct, but couldn't find anything on tops. Anyone know a part #? or have any suggestions. If not i'll probably just have my insurance handle it.

Thanks guys

I would check with an auto upholstery/convertible top shop before I had the dealer do the work. I just can't imagine that they would do a good job.

Around here the dealer would farm it out to an upholstery/convertible top shop anyway.

Sorry, no idea on where to get the tops, I'd be calling my insurance company.

Here in Canada there is a company that replaces car glass, Standard Auto Glass. They also do convertibles and some upholstery. I live in a small town and the guy here does great work. He does a lot of older cars. He did my 1981 Cordoba with a cabrolet roof that was damaged about 4 years ago. Good luck.

I take my car to Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine TX and they always do it right. I had them do my leather and they sent it out to Benny and James in Euless to do the work. AWESOME job! They even used GOOD leather AND it is the stock look. You can't even tell it is new leather except it is better feeling. Let your insurance handle it. I just got rear ended a week and a half ago and Classic is on my insurance company's blue ribbon list so when I told them they will do all the work they said they would set it up with no problems at all. Have some faith and everything will turn out great! Good Luck!

Is your Camaro a V6, Z, or SS??

Welcome to the board!

Thanks for the recommendation. My insurance adjuster is going to evaluate her, but it would be nice to take it somewhere that will do excellent work and is highly recommended.

Oh the camaro is just a v6 w/ a couple of modds, however plans are being made in the future to install a blower or some juice.

thanks again guys.

This is the best price I've found. My dealership wants over 1200 bucks for the same part! Big difference. I'm going to check with the local upholstery shops and price compare letting them get one and install against me buying this one and letting them install. After seeing the service manual I'm kind of chicken to do it myself . It would probably be better to pay the deductible and let the dealer do it. Wish I had that option.
Good luck,
Gabe

Have you bought a top from that company or know anyone that has? That price seems awfully cheap. How do you reuse your glass back window with defogger? Do you have to reuse your headliner? Since I have a white vinyl top, could I get it in white cloth instead? Are the bows different for cloth vs. vinyl? Anyone?

I would think that White cloth would be extremely hard to keep clean. I don't know but it is something to think about.

Jason,
I've spent a lot of time searching the web for a new top. Mine is starting to get dry rotted. The average price is about 450 bucks for a top that is made from the same OEM material. This was the best price out of 5 web sites I found. As for the bows, My service manual for a 94 only shows that one style of bow was made. Just the 'skin' is different. As for the glass, when I bought mine last summer, the glass had been 'pushed' in. Someone had started to cut a hole in the top and decided to go through the back window instead. It's just a silicone sealant holding the glass to the inner rubber layer of the top. Just unclip the defroster plugs and 'peel' the glass away from the top. If you ever got it tinted the tint guys should have disconnected the plugs to do their business.
Hoped the info helps,
Gabe

Thanks for the info poloZ, but i decided to just have my insurance handle it, since they cut through the headliner as well, & it would probably take forever for me to install myself. But appreciate it nevertheless.

Amy! you have no idea how hard the white tops are to keep and/ or clean! try it with no garage sometime with "FRASS" (yes, caterpillar crap!) all over it under trees! GEEZ! also some coward slashed mine last oct. for 3 dollars in quarters from my ash tray! and it is almost impossible to get a dealer to do a top.. he will farm it out. thank goodness you are insured, too..
