Has anyone tried to put an 8" sub in the stock rear 6.5" speaker hole on a convertible. I know it would take some modifications to the 6.5" hole, but just wondering if anyone's tried. I think it could be done. Seeling the enclosure might me tricky, might have to used a free air sub.

It's pretty tight there w/ the top mechanism close by. Even if you get the 8" to fit, I doubt you could get one w/ a very large magnet in there w/o interferring. Checkout my website for pics of a box I built for 2 or 4 8" subs that fit between the trunk and top-well and leaves you all the room in the trunk. My stock rear speakers are now x-overed to be only mid-hi (that's all they put out anyway).

Hey Johnnie,

When you put the box in there, was your top able to go down fine? Is your car fully funtional with it all back there?

Yes, the top goes down w/o interferrence. I designed the front side of the box w/ the same contour as the factory plastic divider.
