My car "moans" when I turn at slow speed. Forward or back, brakes or no brakes. I thought it was the rear, car has 32k on it. I have read a lot of posts about needing to change the oil and adding posi additive because GM thought you didn't need it. Anyway, I changed the rear dif fluid to Mobil 1 and added the posi additive. No change. Is it the springs? I can't see how the tires could be rubbing anywhere, and I would think it would get worse in a hard turn if that was the case. Any ideas?
Changing the rear dif fluid on a convertible was a bitch. I was scared to jack the car up. I had to run the front wheels up on 2x4's to get it up high enough to get my jack under the breast plate. Then I jacked the front up even and set it on cinder blocks(sp?). Then I couldn't get under the rear, because its so low(275 40's), the torque arm, and the sway bar. So I jacked up each side individually. I wasn't wild about that idea, because all the weight was now on the back of the car and I was jacking it up uneven. So I got it up and the whole job of changing the oil didn't take half as long as jacking the car up. It was tough to get the oil into the rear even with a fancy tube. Anyway, that wasn't it, still moaning!
I think next time I will jack the car up with the top down. Supposively, you can stretch the top if it is up. Comments welcome.

I used almost 2 bottles of Mobil one, and 7 oz of diff additive. I figured, it couldn't hurt to have more in there. No change in sound, I don't think its the rear. Possible springs?

The moaning you might be hearing could be coming from either the panhard rod or LCA's. If you have aftermarket suspension parts, check to make sure that they are greased (synthetic or waterproof marine grade).

Do they have zerk fittings? I thought everything was sealed and couldn't be lubed. What should I use?

cinder blocks are a horrible substitute for jack stands! Be careful or you will be the one moaning (and bleeding) if your car falls on you. go out and buy yourself a good pair of 2 ton steel jack stands. you wont regret it. I am starting to think it might be the rear U-joint. When I go slow and make a turn, it starts to moan. If I get on the gas it is quiet, and when I pop it into neutral it is quiet. So, I am thinking, if there was something wrong in the rear it would do it all the time. Thoughts?

Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether the noise you are hearing is coming from a driveline related component or suspension. If you raise the car's rear end, you might be able to hear the moaning while lifting it up. This would sugest that either the LCA's or panhard bushings are squeaking under load. The stock suspension parts do not have zerk fittings, but almost all aftermarket parts do. If you have to spin the rear wheels to hear the noise, then you know it's driveline related (rear axle & bearings, driveshaft, differential etc...)Always try to eliminate one variable at a time.

I hear what you are saying, but the car doesn't do it when going straight or up and down. Only in a slow speed turn off the gas and brakes. It is louder in reverse while turning. If I pop it into neutral while in a slow turn it goes away, or if I give it a little gas while riding the brake. Its either suspension or u-joint. I don't think it is the dif.
