There is a stupid "X" Brace that gets in the way of most headers.
I know the "shorty" headers that line up with the stock exhaust will fit. But I think with "long tube" type hearders you are looking at some minor modifications

I know people take those X braces off when they do LT headers on these cars. People say it hardly effects the car. All shorty headers should fit a convertible no problem. Long tubes should also fit no problem, but only some subframe connectors will work with LT's.
If you want shorty headers, I would check out the MAC's. Lots are good except I've heard that the SLP's for dual cat cars (96' & 97') had fitment issues. Since your car is a 97' you have 02 sensors after your catalytic converters so you will need MIL's to run long tube headers. Long tubes you will also need an aftermarket Y-pipe like IRS sells. I've heard bad things about the Mufflex Y-pipe. You will also have to take care of blocking off your EGR and AIR pump, or buy headers that have those features on them (only FLP and Grotyohann I think have those).
Shorties will basically be a bolt on deal. But you won't see the gains you would from LT headers.
If your really interested in LT's post and I can explain what all you need for each brand of header- as I'm sure a lot of people on this board can explain also.

I'm running the good ole FLP Long Tube Headers with my 97 Z28 A4 and I'm dropped significantly in the front. You can see pics of my ride from the links in my sig. That way you can get a better idea.
