Hey there,

It sounds to me like your car is already prewired for an amplifier and aftermarker CD changer from a previous owner. The car prolly had an aftermarker head unit too.

Hope that helps,

George

The factory system doesn't use RCA jacks for the audio connections, those are found on most aftermarket systems & CD changers.

just a note of interest. My wife bought me a CD changer for my birthday back in July and after three weeks of waiting for the cable to connect it to the stock Monsoon system, The curcuit city people said they werent even sure if the cable ordered would work on a 2001 model! I eventually changed the monsoon for an aftermarket system and cd changer and Im much, much happier. All the hype about how great the stock Monsoon system with 500 watts? Overated as far as im concerned. Do yourself a favor and hook up a descent head unit to the changer cable you found, you wont be disappointed.

do your steering wheel controls work with the kenwood???

Nope! the one thing that totally sucks is the fact that the redundant controls on the steering wheel dont work with anything but the stock head unit. the Kenwood i have is pretty trick though, it folds back over itself when the car is turned off. It appears that there is no stereo at all, blank face plate. A great feature for a convert! I love the stealth look, and of course the obvious improved sound.I do wish the controls worked though.

A Soundgate adapter enables Sony, Kenwood and Alpine radios to work with the steering wheel controls. I have an Alpine unit and the steering whee controls work great work great with the soundgate adapter.

There are other adapters on the market, but those adapters require you to mount an external infrared emitting device somewhere near the radio. A lot of folks that use this type of device drill a small hole just under the fog light switch and then glue the emitter inside the radio bezel. The hole is aimed at the radio. Kind of cheesy if you ask me.

The Soundgate control does not require any external infrared source and it is wired into the existing radio harness wires in less than 5 minutes.

Thats great information. I went to the web site and it only goes up to 2000 model years. mine is an 01. I wonder if theres any difference?

Here's what I use to make my steering wheel controls work with my Eclipse head unit :

Scroll all the way to the bottom and look at the PAC SWI-2 Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface.

Good luck,
