You can definately do it by yourself, I did. If you are squeemish about tearing into your car's interior you might want to have it installed, but I would rather do that sort of thing myself to make sure it's done right.
I have some pics of my install somewhere if you're interested.
Here are some tips :
1) take the top down, pull the front and back seats out. Put the top back up to pull out the plastic interior pieces around the rear seatbelts. Get some replacement black plastic rivets ahead of time ( you know the thumbtack style with all the ribs sticking out so you can hold the interior panels together, you are guaranteed to mess up the old ones taking it apart). You can find these at just about any auto parts store.
2) Pull up the carpet around the rear seat belts. Measure where the rear arms fit through the carpet when in place. I cut an "X" instead of a circle in the carpet to start with so I could cover up any screw ups. Pass the rear arms through the hole in the carpet and bolt up the rear arms to the 4 rear seat belt bolt holes. You should now have both the rear arms mounted through the carpet. I remember having the top down at this point, but I think it was after I put the arms through the carpet and bolted them up.
3) Remove the plastic door trim pieces at the carpet that run along side the front seats. Pull up the carpet from the sides in the rear seat floorboard, and place the main cage hoop in place, with the rear arms mounted into the main hoop (don't bolt it up yet), with its feet touching the metal floor and the main hoop holding the carpet up out of the way. Once everything is together it will give you a good idea on where to drill the holes in the rear floorboard for the "feet" plates for the main hoop. Be sure to look under the car to make sure you will miss the fuel lines and other important stuff. When assembled, one corner of the square metal plate that sits under the car covers part of a black grommet, (at least on my car). I also used silicone RTV sealant around all the bolts to keep things nice and watertight.
4) Once the holes are drilled, (here's the squeemish hard part) cut a line in the rear seat floorboard carpet that's big enough to pass the main hoop's feet through on both sides. Unattach the main hoop from the rear arms, pass the feet through the holes in the rear floorboard carpet, and feed the bolts through the holes in the feet/floorboard to underneath the car with your hand stuck through the hole in the carpet. Get under the car, RTV the bolts, put the metal plate over the bolts, secure the washers/nuts. After I put the feet through the carpet and got the bolts secured I sewed the carpet back together and covered it up with the rear seat floormats. The floormats will sit at kind of a funny angle after the cage is installed, since the cage enters the carpet in the side of the rear seat floorboard.
5) Reassemble trim and seats and you're done !
I love my cage, I get lots of compliments on it and it provides at least a little security in the event of a rollover crash.
