Anyone ever seen someone who sells a chrome roll bar?

no. But Rickerbucks (member here) had his chromed. If you can find a chome guy whose got a big enough tank, you can have the bar set up and then remove it for chroming (weld the bar joints, but tack weld it to the floor pan and remove it when the geometry's all set up).

Not sure what the NHRA rules are on chrome plating. And there's always that issue of hydrogen embrittlement from the chroming process.

Probably going to be huge $$. Around here chroming is expensive.

I did what steve suggested but got mine powder coated white to match the car.

My bar cost $540 CDN to get chromed. About $350 USD. I have a 5 point bar and the swing out bar WAS included in that price.

BUT the tank was about 1 inch to small, so they had to cut the 'legs' that go over the back seat, weld in a sleeve and bolt them after.

You CAN have a chrome rollbar for NHRA rules so long as you are nt faster then 7.50 sec BUT they are probably going to change that to 9.99 sec's. I called the NHRA first to check AND I called my local track. so far I have not had any trouble at the track with my 'bolted' legs. the rules allow for 'bolt-in' cages but the assumption is that it is bolted into the floor pan. Wolf racing mail out cage also uses bolts where the 'leggs' attch to the hoop and that seems to be acceptable for the tracks.

Rickerbuck, I just saw your mods and your E/T, MPH...and I'm a bit confused. With that blower and egine, you should produce easy 11s. I understand your tuning issues...Is your tuning that far whacked?

Not to get too involved in your business, but I'm just curious as to what's going on is all...

LOL

Well Gonzo, I have to be honest and say that the problem is 'driver talent'.

Basically, last year was my first year drag racing (raced about 10 runs in 2000 whilst stock) and I have only once EVER used drag tires (borrowed 16 inch ET Streets). I had three runs on the ET's. I bogged terribly on all three runs off the line and that time was the best I managed. That run had a 60 foot of 2.19 and in fact i had one run with 13.01 and a 60 foot of 2.97 sec. LOL. That is almost 3 seconds. How embarrassing to you think THAT was.

In my defense, I had a stock rear end at the time and my subconcious was terrified of breaking it as I could not afford a 12 bolt at the time. In addition I had a terrible problem with detonation above 4500 revs in third and fourth gear. I have now gone too OBD1 but I have a LOT of tuning ahead of me.

I have bought some 15 Inch ET's and expect to get my 12 bolt installed over the winter.

I do hope to get into the low 11's but I hope to not go quicker. There is NO WAY that I'm putting an 8 point cage in the car.

PS: Any idea about the picture I sent and adding it to my sig? I appreciate the help

Hey Rickerbucks,

Could you tell me a bit about your roll bar.Like where you got it from(or made),options(swing outs and how its mounted)and what it cost.

I will be needing a roll bar soon since I went 14.2 stock.I know have a catback, cai, and some other small mods that will probably put me in the high 13s.

Thanks for any info!

There ya go....

I'm not one for those skinny bars....I like the beefier look. I too padded my bar though I've not yet finished. Basically, the entire bar will be padded and then taken to a custom upholstery shop to have a vinyl cover made for the pads.

Here's what it looks like thus far without the vinyl cover and not fully done....you can see the difference in the plain bar look and the padded look. Oh, ya goota like my knock-offs with E/T Streets... I can't wait til I can stop running with them and get the rear draglites. I got the skinnies for the front...but still got work to do back there.

Zedzag

I got it made by Danny of Pro Gas in Surrey. He charged $600 for a five point bar. Charged an extra $300 for the swing out bar and charged me $75 a weld for the fancy welds (there were four of them)- the name escapes me right now.

CDN $'s of course.
