when installing a set of new speakers in my camaro, the back right one fits differently than the back left. and it keeps rubbing up against the metal bar for the top inside the wall. is there a physical difference in both sides of the top? or is my car strangely retarded somehow?

Make sure the plastic panel fits the same on both sides. When I picked-up my car new, the R-R panel was pushed out away from the mechanism more due to improper wire harness routing. Other than that, I'd guess things should be symmetrical side-to-side back there. Posted by BPS (Member # 1260) on :
I'm doing an install as well, i have not noticed and fit differences left to right.
BTW how are you connecting your speaker wires to your speakers?

i just ran fresh wires throughout the car. and it cant be the plastic pannels because its actually mounting on the metal behind the plastic pannels. the speaker fits diameter wise, but the top on the right side gets in the way of it depth wise. i ended up getting like 1.5inch spacer rings and put them in on both sides and replaced the factory grilles, now my back seat wont go down. first i tried the cerwin vega v-mag series 6.5", they were too small diameter wise to put in the back. now i have the rockford fosgate fanatic hpc1206 in the back. the cerwins fit fine up front and they are REALLY nice sounding speakers. anyway, guess my car is just retarded.

Another thought, has you car ever been wrecked in that area? If so, maybe something didn't get put back the way it should be. Also, if you have speakers that are deeper than the stock ones, rubbing could be a problem no matter what. I wouldn't expect the manufacturing tolerances to be much better than 1/8-1/4" in that area. If things are tighter with deeper speakers, that much tolerance may show up.

I made spacers out of 3/4" plywood.
I used 6.5" MB Quartz coax speakers and they fit great, back seat can still come down and vert top mechanism doesn't hit the speaker magnet.
