Hey, I'm new to the forum, and new to my '99 SS vert. You guys had mentioned subframe connectors as a good mod to help reduce chassis flex. Do our cars come with stock connectors that should be replaced, or is there just nothing down there? Also, does anyone know of the best SFC's for my money? Thanks, Mike

Our convertibles DO have a little more rigidity down there as opposed to the coupes BUT adding the KB SFC's are a HUGH improvement.

And you want to keep it as rigid as you can down there.
another vote for KB DD

A lot of people (including some shops I've called regarding this) have mentioned the extra support that the verts supposedly already have down there. One shop said that the DD's won't fit because of what's already there. Does this mean that to install the DD's, some of the OEM pieces have to be removed? Or do the KBDD's not interfere at all with the OEM equipment? Kinda confused on this. TIA. Tim

I've got the BMR 'vert specific connectors and they work very well. They have to be welded in.

Get the convertible ones and you'll be fine. My Kenny Brown DD's (from www.TByrne.com) are GREAT. The KBDD's also alow you to retain all the extra bracing added by ASC (GM's convertible contractor) at the factory.

Are you sure ASC adds the extra structural support to the chassis? I thought they only did the convert tops (and of course, the WS6 "conversions"). I'd be suprised if ASC adds anything to the chassis. Seems like that would be put on at the factory before the driveline goes in.

Another for some KBDD's!

Well, the chasis and K-frame bracing is all bolt-on bars/braces from what I've seen. And the cars are shipped to ASC as hardtops. I don't know for sure how the verts were constructed, by I belive its in the GMHTP or High Performance Pontiac issues when they did the tours.
From what ASC says on their website its definitely something they can and do perform for other car platforms (Guess weho built the 1987 Buick GNX? ). But the closest I can get is this quote regarding their F-body modificatioon plant: Lachine, Quebec 4500 Joseph Dubreuil Lachine, Quebec Canada H8T-3C4 514.633.5859
* 12,800 sq. ft. * Pontiac Trans Am, Formula WS6 * Component Installation * Inspection
Based on Practicaility, I'd say that the bracing is part of the conversion process. Especially since you can't put in most of the bracing (like the 4-point tunnet brace) with the drivetrain out of the car. All the bracing I've seen (there may be more though) is fairly accessable on the completed car, almost like it was meant to be that way.
But you're right, I don't know for a fact, I was just assuming its part of the package ASC does. Time to break out those plant-tour back issues.
