Best mod to date, should have done it when I first got the car. Ordered last Saturday night had them welded in this morning. Paid $50 for the install.

Local Muffler shop, they do alot of custom exhaust work, that and I know they have drive on lifts.

Good call about the drive on lift!

How hard is it to weld these on yourself without a lift? I have access to a welder... but I know welding upside down is extremely difficult. Is most of the welding on a vertical (Y-Axis) plane?

Thanks,
Tim

I think you *need* to have it on a lift, or a have the car on ramps atleast. The suspension needs to be resting on the car's body weight. If its, not, it goofs things all up, suspension wise after welding them in.

I've heard of guys using four rhino ramps and welding them on, I remember a few months ago someone posted on one of the other boards he was acually in the drver's seat when he had his welded in ? Welding on your back sucks I know I've done it before. Give it a shot if you don't have access to a lift or can get it done cheaply.

I see that you have a convertible 99, so do we. What brand of SFC did you get, where did you get them, and how did you like the fit/finish? Looking for some good SFC's, and just want some feedback for a convertible. Wish somebody made some bolt-in ones.

Thanks in advance!

I got BMR in red from BMR, ordered on a Saturday night online, they arrived on Thursday and were welded on Saturday. The guy who put them in said the fitment was Ok in other words he didn't have any problem welding them in, if he had he said he would have charged me more. I've got nothing but good to say about the BMR products so far on the car, getting ready to get lowering springs,LCA's and relocation brackets along with APHR.Will go with BMR products except for the springs cause they don't have them yet.

I'll second the KBDD SFC's. No ground clearance loss and VERY sturdy.

Cover it all up with cold galvanizing spray paint and you'd be hard pressed to belive its not stock.

Had to tweak mine a bit with a hammer first though to get it flush. (Might have been the car though, a 100mph 720* spin into a jersey barrier will do that I guess )

You know.... I was browsing the net yesterday and came upon reading that convertibles come from the factory with subframe connectors already welded in...? I can't check right now... my car is still in winter storage, but what's the deal? Does it have SOME bracking, but we can still do more? Or was it just certain years?

Thanks,
Tim

No, the convertibles all came with more bracing/stuctural panels than coupes to compensate for the loss of a roof. They are a welded in integral part of the car, and cant be changed. The 98 and up cars have even better structure than the prior cars, but still not enough. Even the 1st gen cars (67-9) convertibles had this extra bracing to help out with the weak body.
