I cant install LT headers with my M6? Or can I? is it a pain if so?

Ive heard too many conflicting opinions of different boards. What do you experts have to say?

yes you can install LT on an M6

there may be some ground clearance problems if your car is lowered

there may be emission issues depending on where you live

What do the emissions have to do with LTs over shorties? The AIR plumbing Im assuming?

I know some LTs don't come with this... is that what you're refferring to?

The difference is that the shorties will allow the cats to stay in the original location and heat up and work properly. With the long tube headers, the cats will be moved, and the flow is changed along with the way the cats work, so it difinatly changes the emissions. Make sure if you are in emmissions test area, that you buy CARB legal headers to save yourself some greif. Also, with the long tubes, you may set 02 sensor codes because of impropper operation.

Will the O2 simms eliviate codes being set? With that pass emissions with them?

Steve's right on the money

There is also a tendency to !air, !egr and !cats with LT's, as it's easier and cheaper then moving and welding parts.

You can get good HP out of shorties too

Cool, thanks guys. I have no idea what Im going to do now. Can't decide. I really want LT's as I know theyre usually more benficial, especially with a supercharger (future plan).

I went through this process myself anf though they are expensive, I feel I made the right choice by buying the FLP's

Ya, thanks rickerbucks. I think Ill end p just going with FLPs. More $$$, but it'll save me the headaches of sending everything out to be plumbed after I get the parts. Having them done after the fact will probably LOOK like crud too.

ditto for the stock O2 sensors they replace. The rear O2 sensors are NOT used in any engine calculation and are ONLY there to determine when the cats are no longer working efficiently. Even if you DO run cats, you don't need the O2 sims, just run the cats and O2 sims a week before testing to make sure everything is runnign right, then test and slap the sims back on for the next 2 years.

If you don't test in your province/state then you don't even need the cats or O2's.

The FRONT O2 sensors are a MUCH different story however.

Ok- so, there are FOUR O2 sensors? This is news to me. I thought there was only 2. Man, I have some learning to do!

I have no idea which way to go now. I definatly have testing in my area, so, I want to have the car emissions legal. I guess I'll save a little while longer, and just go with the FLPs. Theyre pretty, they are complete, and not so bad to install. It will be pretty cool to say I have a high 12 second car (eventually) breathing through full emissions. No excuses for anyone who gets beat by me
