what started out as me re-wiring my amp in my trunk turned into a nightmare. I lifted up my carpet and found a puddle of water underneath it. I'm still not certain as to how it got into the car, but it's been under the carpet for a while by the smell and the surface rust. I never really have anyone in the back seat or put stuff there so I never checked the floor, but the water was sitting in the padding and the surface of the carpet was dry. So after finding that I stripped the entire interior, so the carpet can dry good and I can get some new primer over the rust spots after they are sanded. It wouldn't hurt everyone to pull a section up and check underneath your carpets, No sense in having the floor rust out.

Before you reinstall the carpet,better run a garden hose on the car so the source of the leak may be found.

Don't just prime it, paint it. Primer is porus, and will not prevent rust. Paint will seal it. Heck use POR15 on the rust and it will be perminantly covered.
BTW where was the water, in the trunk pr back seat area??? I get the impression it was the back seat area.

yes, find the source of the leak BEFORE you reinstall the carpet. You might be surprised where it is coming from. It can even be from the under the dash, and run backwards! Also, inspect the joint very well (with water running) at the top rear corner of the door where the door and glass and top and quarter panet all meet. Ours had a huge leak there when we got it.
