I have been thinking of losing some weight in my rear since most of that extra weight is in the back anyway. Also no one EVER sits there .
It would also prevent me from damaging the leather by spilling food on it again .
What do you guys think ? Yay or Nay ?

Not Worth It!You Will Save Very Little Weight & Would Have To Spend Money To Make It Look Right!Use That Money To Add HP! Posted by BPS (Member # 1260) on :
Removing the rear seats and sealtbelts was one of my first mods

If you are racing the car,the weight difference without the seat will not be that noticeable and you need weight over the rear tires for better traction.

Anyone have pics w/ top down and no back seats?? Considering it but consider on just how bad it will look.

In my opinion, leave them in. The bottoms maybe weigh a pound or two, and the back maybe 10 pounds. It would look funny with it missing, then you would have to find or make something to fill in the hole, which would probably end up weighing as much anyway! Just my opinion! Steve. Losing weight in their rear (end) will probably benefit most people without having to strip the car of any parts!
Just cover your seat with a towel and leave it folded down to keep it clean. Removing it won't be of much benefit.

Sorry - I've got a full rear tonneau so you don't see the seats or lack there of. So no pix but it doesn't look bad - i removed the seat belts as well so I have 2 3"x3" holes in the carpet on the rear upper deck, again - not noticable.
I removed my seats for the extra space and not for weight reasons.

I took mine out to fix some water damage, the seatbelts add about 30 pounds with all bolts, the seats are maybe 10 with the back and buckets. The carpet might be 20 lbs. it's hard to messure when the carpet is filled with water. But, our cars look like crap without them, unless you were going to build a nice custom sub enclosure where the seats were it's pointless

I took mine out for a little more hauling room on a car-cruise my club went on. Since then I havn't put them back in... and it looks fine IMO. I have been kicking around the idea of custom sub-box/Amp-rack in place of rear seats... but I gotta come up with a design that looks better than just two 12" woofers sticking straight up.
take em out and see what you think... it's only 4 bolts and easy to reinstall if you like (use a power drill with a socket extension to make it quick )

How do you take the rear seats out?
Would there be any noticable holes in the carpet?
Posted by Steve in Seattle (Member # 315) on :
1 bolt for each seat bottom. 2 bolts for the seat back piece.
And you "can" take out the seatbelts as well, if you like, using a T-49 Torque bit. The holes are only big enough for the bolts to pass through. Not really noticeable, although you could easily make a gray velcro-swatch to cover each up if you like.

Ha, this post is at the top . I haven't been around in awhile do to a virus on my computer. I have since taken out the back seet and it looks fine really. No one even notices. No holes or anything. I have also done heads and cam btw.
