I'm putting the finishing touches on my sub box this week. Its similar to Johnny B's box that sits above the gas tank. I managed to squeeze out 0.666 cu feet. I'm putting a single Kicker 8" L7 in there. I ported the box to 45HZ. Cant wait to actually hook it up. Johnny B's box is pretty cool, but I needed more volume.
I get a few pictures when I'm done. If any of you are interested, I can supply plans with dimensions, or the entire box to you guys.

Cool! Post pics when you can. Glad to see I'm not the only one to realize that location is a great place to stuff a sub (once you figure out how to stuff it in there!). 0.666 cu-ft? Pictures would be great - After I installed Johnny's box I figured that if one needed more volume - you could build the box to accomidate 4 speakers but adjust it so that it does not include the partition between speakers 1,2 and 3,4. That way you have 2x the room but I don't think that would get you .66 cuft.
So I'm very curious

Well I finally got my sub box done, well almost. I'm still working with the carpet on the sides of the box, trying to hide the wires better. I ended up having to remake the entire box, it now has 0.78 cu. feet and has a 3" diameter port tuned to 45Hz. Its a tight squeeze, but fits nicely. Let me know if you have questions are want some basic plans.

Cool! Nice job. Carpeting on an odd shaped box like that can be a PITA. But a little patience, a sharp utility knife, a little glue and a staple-gun works wonders.
BTW, where does the 3" port come out? I can't see it in the pics.

The port is not in view. It is on the side of the box closest to the spare tire.(Amp side)
The sub sounds great. It provides much more bass than I was expecting out of an 8" sub. I reccomend the Kicker L7 for our verts in a box like this.

Looks good - I also found carpeting the box a challenge but I got some trunk carpet that matches and used a lot of the spray on glue with staples and patience.
I wonder if an single 8" in a larger volume is louder/deeper sounding than dual 8's in a smaller enclosure.
Guess it depend on the specs for the sub
Oh BTW - homw many seperate pieces of wood is is made out of? I think my box uses 16 or so seperate pieces in its assembly

I do think that 1 sub in 0.78 cu feet will be deeper than 2 subs in 0.78. However, the 2 subs may be louder. Its all about what you want. I wanted a deep bass response. Putting 2 subs in 0.78 would almost have to be a sealed enclosure, which would not be as deep.
This single 8" L7 Kicker sub does an excellent job. I set the gains a little higher than normal, so when the top is up, I set the bass control on the Head unit to its minimum, and it still hits pretty good. When the top is down I crank the bass back to even or +1, and it sounds good.
Is it tuned for Black Sabbath / Iron Maiden?
