I hate to bother you guys and gals, but would anyone know where I could find some information on why I am having problems closing my convertible top on my 97 Firebird. It seems to "draw-up" after it has been down a while. (2 hours or so) Any information on how to adjust the top would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Keith

You are not bothering us at all....this is what the forum is for!
You might want to get a set of manuals from http://www.helminc.com
It'll show how your top goes together and how to adjust it, along with everything else on your car.

Oh, and welcome...feel free to ask questions or join in any of the discussions here.

Make sure your top is completely dry before you put it down, otherwise shrinkage will make it difficult to put back up.

That is a good point I never thought of!

The top has been put down with dew on it from the overnight weather but it does not seem to effect the top (and this does not happen often) There is no reason or rhyme to when it decides to be stubborn. Just like today, I took it down at lunch and left it down for 5 hours and when I got home I has to fight it to get it latched. Tomorrow it might be the same thing or might close like a well-oiled machine.

Thanks for the ideas though, I will pay more attention to the “wetness” of the top in the future.

Thanks,

-Keith

On my car there are two 'stopper' ( one each side ) parts on the top that prevent the top from lowering past a certain point. One day I went to put the top up and the pass. side latch hook would not reach the mating hole in the windshield header. After a few min. of searching around the roof framework for a bent rod or bar, I noticed that the pass. side 'stopper' was loose and therefore, was preventing the pass. latch from reaching the windshield header. All I had to do was to tighten the 'stopper' up and all was fine! Check your 'Vert for a 'stopper' ( most likely your car will have the same part ) and make sure that it is tight.

Here is a pic....

Hope this helps and Good Luck!
