Can anyone recommend a snow tire for a 97 Camaro SS convert. I do not plan on driving it during any major snow falls, etc. but I would like to see if I can get a tire that would have more traction should a sudden snow happen while I'm out driving. Thanks. [confused]

I used Yokohama Guardex 600 tires on factory steel rims with good success. Any dedicated winter tire should do the job for you.

I would strongly suggest going to the smallest 16" tire that came factory on Camaros, a lookup at the Tirerack or Discount Tire will give you that information.

You can also get steel wheels from them, or, SLP Performance Parts sells the 16 x 8 T/A take-offs for $200 a set.

Tirerack example

Adding some ballast in the trunk is also helps.

What ever Possum uses seems to work! [Smile]

One other note. Just a reminder, I'm sure you already know this, do all four tires not just the back two.

I got some studded snows from Big O and they've done a great job for the last 2 winters. I wouldn't be without them. They were the Big O brand and are fairly narrow. For some reason, the narrower the snows, the better the grip. I guess just less surface area to slide... BTW: Big O will mount and balance the snows free every winter, so you can just mount them to your stock rims if you're still on 16s.

Later, TJ.
