Thanks foe the info on the Crankshaft posistion sensor...but i removed the sensor and cleaned the connections and I still get the po336 code. is the sensor bad (car seems to run fine) I was just going to replace the sansor but I thought I would ask should I replace the sensor or take it to the dealer. could it be something else

Thanks Bob [Cool]

Yes it is possible the sensor is bad. THe PCM does not use the CKP for fuel or timing, only for misfire diagnosis, so it wont affect the way it runs. Did you clear the codes after checking the connections?(either with a scanner, or removing the PCM fuse?). If not, the condition/code will still be there for three consective DRIVE CYCLES (not key cycles!!) which run without detecting a problem.

If I was you, I would clear the codes, see if it resets, then if it does, maybe replace the crank sensor and try it again. If it still acts up, you will have to take it in to a shop for diagnosis. Dont get the perception that it has to go to a dealer. Just because they sell cars, doesnt mean they can work on them!!

good luck,a nd keep me posted. [Smile]

Update on the SES light problem I replaced the crank sensor and cleared the codes. The next day the codes reappeared. I took the car to Ford (they own the warrenty) and they sent it to Pontiac. It took them three days to figure out that the opit spark was bad They fixed a oil leak and replaced the Opti to the tune of 1200.00 [Eek!] Good thing for the wrrenty only has to pay 100.00 That warrenty just paid for itself with one trip....
