I saw them coming in my rear view, they manuvered to get next to me and we caught a light on the 6 lane street. A late model Maroon GT with the whine of a supercharger on my left and a Black Cobra on my right. Revs started to climb and my GF said "Oh s**t". A dream race I though, but as I looked around, there was plenty of opposing traffic and pedestrians on the sidewalk, this was not the place. Light goes green and they both peel out, they let up when they saw I was not in the game, then they hounded me for the next couple of miles, trying to egg me on. It was very difficult to lay off, but in hindsight, I'm glad I did. Time to hit the track.

There is a time and place for everthing I wish I always had the same good judgement. My SS is not my daily driver but when I get it out it seems like every thing on four wheels wants to give it a go. Gotta pick your spots. [Big Grin]

You did the right thing. That was not the time nor place to race. I know its hard to resist the challenge...I have been there too. They wouldn't have given you the time of day if they didn't think your car was fast. You don't always have to prove it by racing. Sometimes by not racing you're telling your opponent he is not worthy of a race against you. That could possibly make you look smart and them dumb. They hate that! We know our Camaros can kick some serious butt if we want them to.

Good for you. Great control. Keep it at the track where racing belongs. (As if I've never street raced.)

See...that's a goo story! I dont like hearing about races on the road. Sure, I'll maybe mash 1st gear, but that's all. IT's waaay safer to take it to the track anyways. :thumb:

Yea same here, i might mash first and take it up to 40 (or what the speed limit is) but street racing is not only unsafe but too expensive [Smile]

Not that I havent strayed from the path, but I try..

I had the same thing happen after cruise night, two stangs (one each side).. after a couple of revs back from me the one wanted no part.. the other i beat off the line up to around 45 (empty area) and then I let off and they did the ricer flyby.. lol

Good call.. you did the right thing. We all like the "stop light grand prix" once in a while but using your noggin in those situations is a good thing.. which is exactly what you did. *2 thumbs up*.

Sometimes the only way to win is to not play the game!

All it would take is for someone to lose a little traction sideways in a 3 lane race!

I am sure it was not an easy decision, but definately the right one [Cool]

I have though about how that race could have been many times since that encounter, I stood a real chance of beating 2 very fast cars. The pestering after the denial is what ticked me off, they never stopped to think that this race had deadly potential. 1100 horsepower across 3 lanes WOT is a recipe for disaster. I still have an upset stomach from having to swallow my pride.

IMHO there is abolutely no reason to feel that way. You should feel proud of the lives you potentially saved and the fact that your "f-body arrived alive"

Thats why you came out on top my friend. [Big Grin]

I know exactly how you feel as a 2003 Junkstang Cobra pulled up next to me on the freeway when I was out cruising one day. He jumped on it and cut in front of me and looked in the mirror. I mouthed back to him as I laughed that he didn't have anything on me. He then took off in a huff. [Big Grin]

Don't let showoffs get you down bud. Just know you would have beaten them because its not always the HP, its the driver first and formost. [Big Grin] [Wink] [Cool] [Smile]

Interesting responses to this thread... [Confused] . The pedestrian issue certainly warrants a no-ah-ah and I can certainly appreciate the 'safe than sorry route' which requires discipline. For that congrats [Big Grin] . Nothing worse than deciding to race, risk getting owned (not knowing what those boys were bringing), then cap it off by getting a ticket which you'd pay for the next couple of years in insurance! But damn! Two Mudstangs!! That would be a tough one...I think the adrenaline would make the right foot a little heavy [Razz] .

Yea, what is it about our cars that makes everyone at a stop light " want a shot at the
title"? Could it be the hood scoop, the spoiler, wide tires, dual chrome tips out back, the
throaty exhaust note... hmmm? [Wink]

It's a cool "phenomenom" (sp?) caused by owning great cars [Smile]

There is a local (?) who owns a silver convertible Saleen nearby, and it never fails. If I have the SS out for a ride, we run into one another. He'll pull up alongside, race the motor, and pull away, only to wait for myself of someone else to pull alongside, and off he gos again. LAst time, I passed his house, and sure enough, here he comes, trying to impress me.

I'll admit he has a nice car, but c'mon, how many times are you going to race your engine, etc.?! I'm not about to race him on the street...not worth the risk.

Besides, don't want to "burst his bubble" just yet [Big Grin]

Within the past year a street racer killed a pedestrian in a night time street race..........Then ran away from the accident [Confused] .

Long story/short......He was cought and sent to jail. The Police watching the illegal race lost their jobs and a person was killed .

Street racing Does not pay.
