I'm curious to know which engine is better from a performance stand...LT1 or the LS1. I'm looking to buy an 98-02 SS and have the money to buy the best. Therefore, what engine/year is best on the streets?

Based on the model year f-bodys you're looking at it'll be an easy choice = LS1 (98-02). All f-bodys for those years listed have the LS1, which makes me question your intentions for the post?

Nate, I've had 2 of both. The verdict: if you want a really fast car that responds well to mods, sounds like crap (unless you do extraordinary things to the exhaust), and wants it's A/F ratio adjusted everytime you touch the motor, get an LS1. If you want a car that has an exhaust note to die for, no matter what you do to the exhaust, needs a cam & headers especially, has a leaky intake, has an easy to program PCM, get an LT1, better yet, an LT4, to me, the best small block ever built.

PS By the way, how does the loudmouth sound? You had the 2OTL before that, correct?

As for the best engine, it is a "house divided". Many people love their LT1 and many love their LS1. Take a ride in an LT1 powered car and then in an LS1 powered car and you chose which one you like better. As for me, I would never trade my LS1 for an LT1 but I do respect the performance that an LT1 produces. If you look at stock for stock 1/4 times you'll usually see the LS1 performing better. It all depends what you plan to do to the car.

Get an LS1 then give it a 6 liter iron block.

I haven't seen too many bolt-on LT1 cars running in the 12s but it seems like it's not too difficult for an LS1 car.
But then again, I'm a little prejudice towards LT1s for obvious reasons.
