I am just wondering if there is a way to verify that a car is a true SS and not a just a Z28 that someone put decals on? Can anyone give me something that I can actually look at and verify it's authenticity? The car looks good and it is a 99 with 39000 miles. It has a SLP air intake, SS insignias and turned up rear spoiler, also the third brake light says SLP on it. Is there any VIN# that distinguishes it from the Z28 or standard Camaro or do I have to call SLP? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

The hood and spoiler is a definite thing to check, though they could have been added on. On the drivers door there should be a Y2Y as one of the parts codes. There will also be a SLP sticker saying they modified it to an SS. On the passenger door will be a SLP sticker with any additional options installed by SLP. You can even write down the VIN # and check with SLP to be sure.

It has the hood and spoiler but there is no Y2Y code and there is there no SLP sticker on the passenger door or drivers door for that matter. It does have the code WU8 and Z28 on the drivers door.

...KevinV is correct, there should be an RPO code on the driver's door jamb sticker, ...I think "WU8" is the code to look for though...

The Y2Y may be only for when there are SLP second level options added.

I just need to make "SURE" before I buy it so I guess I better call SLP tomorrow.

J B the 99 did not have a Y2Y code on it if it had none of the extra slp opts. added and WU8 is the code for it to be a SS so if it has the WU8 on the sticker it is a true SS [Big Grin]

Well that helps, the guy said it had some kind of a stage 2 suspension I think I don't know if that tells you anything or not. I guess I am just not to trusting these days.

Just look inside the driver door. There is a sticker with the option codes of that car. A SS will have "WU8" listed on that sticker.

drivers door GM RPO sticker will have WU8. its the only way to verify a real SS.

SLP passenger door sticker only if SLP second sticker content was installed. (bilstein, dual/dual, etc)

Well in case anyones interested I bought the car. I got a good deal I think because the guy had to sell it. It is a 99 with 39000 miles and is basically like new inside and out although it will need a set of tires soon. I got it for $14,000, my other car was a 2000 Mustang GT and so far I am impressed with the SS. It has lots more power and gets off the line a lot quicker than the GT plus the motor is not as easy to tear up as the 4.6 and cost a lot less to fix if something does go wrong. Anyway I really like it and wanted to thank you guys for the help. I did talk to SLP who also verified it is a original SS car and the "WU8" code is the SS code.
