Word is out in Texas, that we can not have the license plate covers (trim) on our cars now! How stupid can some people get? What does the bracket do? It secures the plates, protects the plate, advertises for dealers, shows club membership, shows personality traits of owners, and many other neat things. In no way does it obscure the numbers or letters to keep them from being seen, unless you put the smoke or colored plastic lenses on them. What is the deal here now? I think this is one of those stupid laws, where we paid politicians to meet and give them something "simple" they could decide on. Okay...off the soap box now. Just thought I would let the word out to some unknowing people, that never heard of it, until like I did yesterday. Jim

Politicians think they are not doing anything for their pay if they are not passing laws when they would be better off for the public if they sat there got paid and did nothing. 90% of the laws they come up with you think a moron thought them up anyway. At least here in NC you only have one plate on the back and no such laws yet. Don't you think it's about time the public did something about the laws they pass

Hello, RareSS what`s up from Texas ! I also heard about that new law, but I thought it was only about the covering of Texas not the numbers.

Showgun, The way it was told to me, was that it can not cover 'any' part of the plate including.....'the edges'. I have decided to run my "beauty trims" on the Camaros until I get warned or whatever. Then I will go from there as to say it is a freedom of speech and/or advertising. Looks like you all are getting a lot of rain down there. We need it and can't get it. Makes for good car show weather...no washing! ha ha Jim

Not true! It can not cover any part of the design including letters or numbers. You also can not put any decals or stickers on the plate. You can have frames if they meet the above criteria.

Dr. Walter Williams had a great idea the other day when discussing the latest pay raise for our Congressman in Washington. He proposed making their pay $1,000,000 per year on the condition that they stayed out of Washington and didn't do anything.
I know these are state politicians, but the idea is still sound.

Fine is "up tp $200". Allegedly passed to insure proper recognition of plates in toll road EZ tag lanes, all it really is probable cause to pull over and search. While my SLP frame only covered the "The Lone Star State" motto, I took it off.
Another great law that passed at the same time requires one to give a lane's width of clearance to a patrol car when he has pulled someone over to the shoulder. Not only do you have to move over, but you are supposed to reduce speed. Try that in the inside lane on any Texas interstate and see how fast you cause an accident.
What are these guys (Our illustrious elected officials) thinking???

As far as the license plate is concerned, the law was enacted because some people take it to far. Stickers all over and frames that cover half the plate. If your special car gets stolen, how are the police going to find it without being able to run the plate. I run plates of nice cars all the time just to make sure they haven't been reported stolen and most of the time I'm seeing a plate at 55mph from the corner of my eye. It is hard enough to see the plate with nothing on it. I work in the Detroit area and it sure is nice to contact the owner of a stolen vehicle so he or she can get there TA or SS back. Some people never see there cars again. I don't see a problem with just an SLP frame, but if you allow it, you would have to break it down to what can be covered and what size it could be etc.... Its just easier to say nothing on the plate. My partner on midnights owns a 01 Fire Hawk and I own a 02 LE SS and a 71 Buick GS 455. I guess you can look at the law two different ways.

Oh ya, as far as moving over and or slowing down for officers on traffic stops, here in Michigan you are required to move over if you can and if you can't, you are required to slow to a safe speed. Trust me, until youv'e been out on the side of the freeway and had a car go by at 75mph and miss you by just inches, you'll never be able to appreciate a law like that. 3 of the last 4 troopers killed here in Michigan were run over by vehicle's traveling at high speeds. Just no fun picking a friend out of someones front grille. It's quite messy and someone altimately has to tell his wife and kids that dads not coming home. Again, there is two ways to look at it.

Stupid law. I belevie it comes under freedome of speech/expression, as long as no vital information is covered up like registration sticker, plate numbers, etc. And yes, advertising IS covered under freedom of speech. Just look at all the problems the 'do not call list' is creating in congress, etc.
Just had a guest speaker in my one class last night. A guy who owns a lobbying firm. Was telling us about some crazy laws and how they come about: 1. In Pittsburgh, it is illegal to spit out of a trolley car. This is becasue one day, a congressman actually had this happen to him. 1. Another state senator was driving in the turnpike and traffic was moving slower in the left lane and was stuck with no way to pass. When he got to work, he wrote up a proposed bill that the left lane is only for passing and you can only use it for up to 2 miles!! Otherwise, you can get ticketed and a min. fine of $175
That's why I hate politics. People have nothing better to do than come up with these ridiculous laws, just like the license plate one you guys now have.

Where did you see this law at? And does this law cover plastic covers that fit over the plate, or borders that fit at the edge?
