It's now known only as the 'Continental Inn'. They are no longer with the Best Western chain. Their number is (270) 781-5200. Mention that you are with the SSOA group and they will do all they can, with the all the different accomodation requests, to keep us grouped at the Inn.
Yes, the Best Western Motor Inn is down at exit 22. You want the Continental Inn at exit 28.
I talked to the Gen'l Mngr this morning and this is what we've come up with.
They'll set aside a block of (40) rooms for the SSOA.
They're for arrival on Weds nite (9/17), thru Sunday morning (9/21). If your arrival/departure times will be different, please indicate this when you call.
Call early and reserve with your (valid) Credit Card. Make sure it doesn't expire in August, either.
They will make every effort to accomodate your needs (bed type, bed number, smoking or non, upper or lower floor), but you need to call, call soon and make your request. Don't give them 'it don't matter', 'cause at check-in, we don't want any (more) problems.
Rate is 55 bux a nite, 49.50 with a valid AAA or AARP card. (that you MUST present at check-in for that rate)
The event itself is from the 19th thru the 21st of Sept. There will (probably) be an SSOA event on Thursday, like last year.
If there are any issues with this, let me know by e-mail and I'll work to resolve them.
Thanx , Mike.
ps - Art, Linda sez hello and hopes to see you in Sept.

If you were at BG last year and reserved your room at the Country Hearth for this year, take note...
The event was moved up a week since then and the hotel will not automatically rearrange your reservation. You have to call in and have them move your reservation up a week. Otherwise your room will be unavailable while you're there, and you'll have a reservation for the weekend after the event. Posts: 878 | From: Hoffman Estates, IL | Registered: Feb 2000

When I called the Country Hearth Inn on Monday, they said they were completely booked for the weekend of the 18-21st of September. Those who didn't move their reservation, might be out of luck.

So in your subtle way Teri, you are telling me that the Sept. 19-21 IS the current official date, right. It had changed at one point, right??

Yes, it was scheduled the following weekend, but ended up Beech Bend was already booked for that weekend, so they moved it up one week.

Sorry, I had to mess with you a bit. Here's more subtlety for ya Yes, the old date was a week later. (On our Anniversary, too! We were really hoping to celebrate BIG with everyone). We'll get to enjoy it on the way home again, like last year.
Any hoo......we're planning on rolling into town on Wednesday the 17th, so we are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for SSOA Thursday on the 18th. The Museum activities and Gathering are planned on the 19th - 21st.
As SSOA Thursday plans come together, they'll be announced here on the forum. If anyone has suggestions, please bring them up. We'll see what fits in with the rest of the day's activities.
I hope we get to meet you this year, Kevin!

If the doctors can keep me functioning with LOTS of good drugs, I'll be there. All these specialists and they STILL have not figured out what is wrong.

C'mon Kev - think positively! You WILL be there! Seriously though, I hope you're feeling better very soon. BTW, I reserved my room at the Continental last week and the girl taking the reservation said that only 4 rooms out of the block of 40 had been booked so far! What's everybody waiting for?!?

Well, made reservations for us. As I took early retirement and will not need to rush back to VA. on Sunday for work Monday, decided to also reserve Sunday night.
Now the stupid question as this is our first BG event, what will be going on??? Posts: 68 | From: Richmond, VA 23236 | Registered: Jun 2000

I just got off the phone I got a room reserved with no problem. I also have had a room reserved at the Fairfield Inn off exit 22 for months.
It's nice to be close to the NCM but exit 22 has the restaurants and the Go Cart Racing. I could stay either place. Let me know if you can't get a room since I have 2 reserved I can give one up.

Thanks a bunch DGOETZ, but after I read your post, and others' about rooms booked solid, then rooms becoming available, etc., just for fun I gave the Continental Inn another ring a little bit ago. They told me they hoped I only needed one room Wed-Sun because that was all they had left! Obviously I didn't pass it up. I would've booked months ago if I knew for sure I could go, but it wasn't until last night I found out my chances turned out far better than the previous 0% I could make it.
Now I have two separate rooms reserved. If anyone needs a place at exit 22 Rodeway Inn, I have a reservation there for Wed-Sat nite(checkout Sunday) I'll keep out there for a while . So far what I understand is that exit 22 has no issues and it wasn't a bad thing since all the gokarts/restaraunts/stores are better at Exit 22. I just would enjoy the convenience of the room being as close as it is to the NCM is all.
Last minute chaos. You know how it is.....

We stayed at exit 22 last year. A bit inconvenient, but no big deal. Just down the street from the go-karting. It's only 7-8 min. down the road from exit 28. Besides, there's a neat do-it-yourself carwash a couple of blocks down from 22! Exit 28 has the convenience of being a hop, skip and jump away from all the festivities, and don't forget Jerry's restaurant!!
