What's the correct procedure to fix gear whine if caught right away after installation?

You better take that car back to the guy that installed the gears. It sounds like he did not set them up right. Might be crush ring is wrong, preload or the backlash is off. None of the gears in any of my cars whine so I have to believe there is a problem with yours. Bigger gears will make more noise. How noticable is it?

It actually seems to be getting quieter with miles. The installer and I went for a drive yesterday and he said that he intentionally made the backlash a just a bit tighter so that when it breaks in it'll be right where it needs to be. He insisted it would keep going away during break-in period.

Hope he is right, but at least he is aware of the noise. I would pull the cover in the near future and take a look at the gears and see if there is any metal in the fluid. Good luck. I would like to meet some time and see the mods that you have done to your car.We do not live that far apart.

Just turn up the stereo until you can't hear the whine anymore!

What was done to it to fix it?
Did the fix include new parts or readjustment?

no they just put in new fluid and it fixed it but now it is back and worse than ever so I have to take the car in again. Too bad my warranty is up in august. Next time this happens after the warranty is up I'm getting 4:10's
