I have had no problem with my SS, but I have heard a few stories about LS1's and LS6's using some oil. 3000 miles would not be considered a problem though. 400-600 miles to a quart would be considered a problem.

I used 1 qt in 1500 miles in my LS6 in my vette and don't consider that an issue.

Hope that helps a little.

Contrary to what Dan said I do believe that 1 1/2 quarts is an issue although it may be a rather difficult task to convince a dealer.
Bring it to their attention anyway. They may want to run a consumption test on it. Just be as persistent as possible when it comes to the dealer.
If ignored it could (one possibility) become a large problem over time... as in spun bearings and the like.

Wanna fight about it?? Actually, I agree. It's just that I have heard so much about it lately that there is a lot of overeaction. I am watching the Z06 very closely and have documented the fact I had to add a quart at 1500 miles and let the dealer know as well. The story I get from GM is that they will look at it after 4000 miles. Then they will do a consumption test. The SS has had no oil loss at all.

"The accepted rate of oil consumption for engines used in the vehicles referenced is 0.946 liter (1 qt) in 3200 km (2000 mi)".

"If the oil consumption test shows that the engine uses less than 0.946 liter (1 qt) in 3200 km (2000 mi), explain to the customer that their engine meets the guidelines for oil consumption".

Good way for GM to cover their arses.
But I guess I can understand this since LS1 blocks are aluminum with contract/expand happy hyper-u pistons.

I just recently had this happen on my 2000 Z28 and it is EXACTLY as you say, 3000 miles since change and a quart and a half low with the light on. I added oil and have been checking the driveway once in a while but there is never anything there. I just got the oil changed and will see what happens as I near the end of this oil cycle. I am taking it in for some minor warranty items this week and will let them know about it. My car has 35,500 miles on it right now. I have had only the following wrong:

Horns filled with water from huge puddle
Leather worn through
SES light because of bad air pump
wheel caps replaced because of faded bowties
front rotors warped/ had resurfaced

the list for this week is:
Rear end squeak when hitting bumps,
rear driveshaft seal is leaking(I reved it in neutral and droped it into gear too soon with ASR turned ON! ), front rotors are warped AGAIN, and there is a spot on the rear drivers wheel that looks like a rust spot under the paint??, and the drivers window seems to be FAINTLY clicking as it raises and lowers.

I have a 60k mile warranty but it clearly states that it doesnt cover rotors so I need to get it in before 36k miles just to be on the safe side.

Other than all of that the car has been absolutly AWESOME and the only other thing wrong is a stupid semi through a rock at my windshield and cracked it.

Sorry for going on but just thought I would share what I have experienced with my car.
