We purchased a 400 small block for installation in our car. The engine is brand new and fully assembled. Yesterday my wife and I pulled all the main caps and rod caps to confirm bearing clearances and were shocked to see 030 stamped on the back of each bearing shell. I thought a crank turned any more than .010"/.010" was unsuitable for performance use. I think that the main journals on the 400 are larger than the other small block Chevies, but can I use this crank? Also, is .0018" too tight on the mains?
Thanks for your help. We are new to this bottom end stuff.
