Hi all! Well I got my car back and after alot of tests by the dealers top mechanic and after a couple of calls to Chevy's Tech-Line, my slight pinging noise at times is said to be factory normal! I was shown the GM document id#680062 which states "Do not worry if you hear a little pinging noise when you are accelerating or driving up a hill. That is normal, and a higher rated octane is not needed to get rid of the pinging. Heavy, constant knocking means there is a problem". I'm somewhat relieved, but I wish that I would have heard some others report about this so that I wouldn't feel as if I'm the only one. Also the GM tech stated on my ticket that this is a trait of the 5.7 LS1 engine.

Happy Fourth everyone! I'm still not sold on the idea that these engines ping now and then, because no one that I know that has a new V-8 Camaro has had this happen to them. I'm going to try one more dealer and if that doesn't work then I'm filing the Maryland Lemmon-Law Act against Chevy ( who has not been very helpful )and the dealer where I bought the car. I hope no one else ends up with this problem!

My car had a ping when i bought it(used). The dealer had been puting low octain fuel in it. To solve my problem I used a bottle of redline fuel cleaner. Ran that tank of fuel of sunoco 94, then reset the computer by pulling the ecm fuse. No pining except for the occasionally luging in the wrong gear.

Thanks for the idea. I've wondered about the fuel myself; I always run high test and I thought the dealer would have made sure that there is no build up in the injectors ( I only have 9,500 miles )however, I'm going to another dealer for a second opinion. The car runs great on the first start but later in the day is when it acts up!
