Ok I have never had a problem with overheating so I don't now if this is what is occurring or not... here are the symptoms and such.. All signs point me in that direction though...
Ok as you have read from my other post I finally got the camaro timed and it is purring like a kitten... I took it out a couple of nights ago and it ran fine... until we got down the road around 3/4 of a mile and it suddenly died.. just up and quit...
I tried to start it and it would just crank over and not do a thing... when I was cranking it over there was "steam" or "smoke" coming up from the carb and from the oil fill tube. It was not sweet smelling and I do not have water (antifreeze) in my oil. the combustion chambers look good. the spark plugs have some carbon on them but that is all...
I let the car sit for a while once we towed it home (that is a funny story) and later that night I went out and it cranked and started up without any problems whatsoever.. any ideas what the heck is going on? I plan on testing or just go ahead and buying a new thermostat this week... the radiator is new and so a the hoses. i have nothing in the radiator like rust of anything. The only other thing that I could think it could be is that the original water pump has finally failed.. what would be a good way of testing it?

If you saw vapor coming out from the carb while cranking, maybe the engine was flooded and the fuel was evaporating.
