On my 02 SS I put in a Hypertech 160 thermostat and reprogramed with Hypertech. The temp gauge still runs one pointer width below 210. What gives? 45 degrees today.

Ford used them with their gauge clusters. The sending unit has a set resistance so when the the engine is cold the gauge reads cold and as soon as the engine warms up ,the resistance value of the sender goes to a set resistance.Kinda works like if the vehicle has an ediot light for the temp light. The sender is more like an on/off switch than a variable resistor.

If you have reset the "Fan ON" temp with the Hypertech to ~160 you should not be reading much higher than that. Only thing I can think of is that the Hypertech III does not have a very good reputation, they've had to release an update to the software. Most recomend using LS1 Edit.

Are you sure both fans are coming on? I know Elie had to have one fan replaced as it stopped completely. I have had one fan replaced because it was getting lazy. I caught that one before any serious cooling problems developed.

I've found the temp gauge to be very inaccurate. I checked a car last week that read a hair under 210 on the gauge but the reading that I scanned was 187. This is with a 180 thermo.
