I just bought a 12 disc CD changer for my 02 Z28 and would like to mount it. My vehicle did not come with one originally so I have several questions since I would like to make an OEM style mount. How many brackets hold it down, 1 or 2? Is the bracket mounted under or on top of the carpet? How is the bracket mounted, weld or screws? Could anyone post a pic of the bracket/s with the CD changer removed...? Thanks in advance for any help! [Smile]

I can answer most of your questions:

2 brackets hold it down.

The brackets are on top of ther carpet.

Brackets are mounted with bolts. The studs come through the carpet.

I can send you picture with CD player intalled if that will help. You have to wait until I get home from work! [Wink]

You may want to consider a soft mount, rubber bushings or springs, as they will skip going over larger bumps.
Some have also mounted theirs with the cassette facing up so it's eazy to install when the trunk is full.

I don't know, let me work on that tomorrow. It would be a pain to get to the rear bracket because it is so close to the rear of the trunk. You'll see what I mean in the pics. I'll send them to you via e-mail either tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest. [Smile]

edit: You have mail! [Wink]

This information should allow you to do a "factory correct" CD changer installation in your SS.

You will need:
1. One #16 bracket, part #10274254, $4.34
2. One #20 bracket, part #10428324, $3.60
3. One #23 bracket, part #10276577, $3.51
4. One #18 nut, part #11516780, $0.63
5. Four #19 screws, part #11503044, $16.00

Two #15 retainers are already on bracket #16 so there is no need to order them.

Bracket #23 mounts under the carpeting and the the vertical stud on the bracket will petrude through an existing cut (made at the factory) in the carpeting.

GMPartsDirect has them. I used doublesided 3m tape on the bracket to the floorpan under the carpet. Changer doesn't move at all.
