i drove my z28 acouple weeks ago for the last time of the year and i needed gas-cause it was on empty- so i put acouple bucks in alittle more then i wanted. i'm putting the car away for good in my garage and already took the insurance of the car- the tank has alittle less then half a tank... - i want to have the tank bone dry- the 94z28 has a screen or something in the gas nosel- cause i shoved a hose in the tank to try to drian the gas out that way but you can't get the the fuel in the tank from that way- right now i'm letting the car run with the air on full blast- but it will take forever to burn the gas sitting there- how else can i get the gas as without going into major work?? thanks.

Why do you want to run the tank bone dry? That could damage the electric fuel pump and actually overheat it. I store all of my cars for the winter with a full tank so I can start them from time to time.On a metal tank(4th gens are plastic)leaving the tank empty may actually cause moisture to collect in the tank.There is some sort of restriction in the neck on most vehicles to prevent someone from putting a hose down the filler neck.If you really want to run the tank dry,you could disconnect the fuel pressure line from the fuel rail,put a hose from it to a can and then either apply 12v to the green fuel pump test lead under the hood or jump the fuel pump relay connector to operate the pump.Some people use fuel stabilizer.I never do.

what if i just take off the fuel filter?? wouldn't that let the gas all run out? when i have changed fuel filter i have never had really and gas left in the tank to know if that would drain the whole tank?? my neighbor has two vettes and he has always let his sit for the winter on a dry tank and never had problems. moisture would only hurt if it mixed with a not full tank of gas over time.

I suppose you could take off the filter and hope that the fuel drains by gravity or with the filter loose,jump the fuel pump relay or apply 12v to the fuel pump test lead to allow the fuel to drain.

hmm a battery and gas lines make me kinda ahhh- so maybe i will just try the fuel filter- never did what you are telling me to try- but have heard of people doing it- just ify to try if myself- haha - does the line going to the fuel filter have like a shut off in the line so the fuel won't all drain out? i have no clue of such thing- but thought i would ask... what if i jack the car up that should help to drain it i would think?? thanks

No shut off on the fuel line from the factory.Applying the 12v power would be done under the hood away from the fuel filter.The only other thing you could do without jumping any power to the fuel pump would to have a regulated air hose with just maybe 5psi of pressure in the filler neck while the filter line is disconnected,that will push the fuel out from the tank.

my fuel tank has two rubber plugs in the bottom of it- they have to be there for draining the tank- what other reason would they be for??

Are you sure your plastic fuel tank has 2 rubber plugs in it? Sounds like you see the 2 rubber plugs that are in the bottom of the cargo well.

hmmm- maybe thats what they are??? i didn't know that my car had a plastic fuel tank.... then the plugs are to let water out of the back of the hatch then.

Stored mine every winter - since 98 - leave the tank full, and add some "Stabil" if you want, like Greg I just fill with fresh gas in the fall and it's fine till next spring.
If you want, you can drop the fuel tank and drain it completely - a lot of work - uneccessary IMHO.

yeah - don't want to go through the trouble of dropping the tank down. i don't want to keep the tank full of gas, cause it will be like 6months before i bring it back out and i don't drive the car very often or far so even with the stable i don't want to keep the gas in the system for next year.

I store ours with a full tank of fuel-as much as I can get in. That way, I don't have to worry about condensation issues, even if the tank is made of plastic.
