So Ive installed my Pro 5.0 shifter and Ive been to the track a couple times since.
My best so far is 13.1 @ 109mph stock with just some LS1 edit, not too bad for 2nd time at the track with a stick car.
Now.. heres the deal... the Pro 5.0 gaurantees you will not miss 3rd.. but its happening. Too bad I bought it used.
Its happened 3 times now... at the track.. aggressively shifting. Ill go from 2nd to "3rd" and Ill let out the clutch only to find the car free revs. The thing is its deffinately NOT in nuetral.. when Im shifting the shifter DEFFINATELY gets stuffed somewhere cause its not in the center, nuetral.
I had someone tell me that theyve seen it happen before.. that you can actually bend the shifting forks, inside the tranny, by stuffing 3rd too hard. Basically it goes into a "la-la-land" between 3rd and 5th gear and even causes the reverse lights to come on. I know this is happening to me cause someone saw my reverse lights but its DEFFINATELY not in reverse. When I throw it to where I think is 3rd and let out the clutch it just revs... if it was actually reverse I would know it.
Soooo.. anyone know what Im talking about? Ive talked to a couple people that have seen this happen and a couple people said it only happened with Pro 5.0 shifters... I like my shifter but if this is gonna happen Ill switch to a ripper.
Anyone know anything about this? Have you had this happen with your Pro 5.0? Or your Ripper? Or stock?

This is the first time I've heard of this problem. I have the Hurst and shift pretty hard in the quarter but never had a problem or missed a shift.

I intsalled the hurst billet+ and never had the mystery of finding third after that. The la la land may be caused by engaging the synchro only, and not the gear. Yes, shifter forks can bend, and cause all kinds of problems. Bottom line, I would start with a new shifter.

If the synchro is engaged then it is in gear, as it is the synchro that locks the gear to the output shaft. The gears are always engaged/meshed together.
The T56 in our cars have aluminum shifter forks and they can bend. They can be changed to cast iron forks as used in the T56 in the Vipers.
If you have to get into the transmission you should also consider installing carbon backed synchro rings. They are really really good.
I have had them put in my transmission when it was blueprinted and it shifts like butter now.
