I have a 99 SS it has a few modifications(Borla exhaust, MAC headers, Mas air flow sensor and lid,computer chip, and will be getting a new suspension set up soon, well a soon as i decide what i like, im very picky when it comes to my car)Its a nice day driver and it participates in a far share of drag races, i want a tire that will hook great out of the hole, the cost isn't a factor( i've been saving up!!!)any sugestions will help, and if you have any knowlegde of suspension systems help me out there to, i've been looking a Hotckins set ups and Granettalli (sp) motorsports set ups. oh and while im asking all these questions, any ideas on ignition systems? Thanks for your help!!

For the Back, the Nitto 555 Drag radials are great! They are soft, do well in the rain, and have a 15,000 mile projected life. We have them on the back of our Ram Air, with a set for the SS on the works. Best part is that for 145$ each from discount tire, they're a bargain. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for the best straightline traction from an everyday tire. That's my two cents Good luck!

ssmojo, where'd you get your SS at, Magouirk? If you ever need parts, stop down there and ask for Harland. He's the parts manager, and he'll treat you right. It doesn't hurt if you drop my name . . . he was my next door neighbor for years.
I grew up in Garden, so the area is familiar to me. I bought my 95 Hawk at Goff (now G&G motors, I think) and have never really seen many other muscle cars in Dodge . . . good to know they're spreading!
As far as tires, I'll second Chab. If mileage isn't an issue w/ the tires, I've heard great things about the KD's/W's. If you're wanting the best of both worlds, wear & grip, go w/ the Firehawk SZ50s.
For suspension mods, I've been giving the BMR rear LCAs & Panhard a real hard look, but for springs & shocks, I'm going w/ SLP's Level 1 parts. Also, a set of subframe connecters are a good addition.

What I saw/heard at Bragg-Smith ... but keep in mind this is all road course ... not drag racing.
They replace the worn out Eagle F1 GS that comes stock on the SS with Eagle HP Ultra Plus tires. The HP is a cheaper tire ... a couple of instructors prefer it ... one likes the GS better.
Rupert ran some laps on BFG g/Force KD's and on Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar Tires (stock on the Z06) ... He was a little faster on, and preferred the characteristics of, the Supercar tires.
As has been suggested, get a set of drag radials for quarter mile duty ... one tire cannot provide both best handling and best straight line. All tires are a combination of compromises.

I've been told that the KD's were also good in wet weather. Is this true? I also wanted a tire that had the "lip" that protects the rim. Do the G-forces have that? Thanks.

I went into Costco to inquire about the BFG KDW's and the salesperson told me I could get a full set w/the road hazard warranty for $1100.00 out the door.

For all-around performance where money is no object you can't do better than Michelin Pilot Sports. They are the OEM tire for not only the Dodge Viper, but also for the BMW M5 and the Porsche 911 series. The Germans don't take the tire selection for their premier performance cars lightly. If you're seriously into drag/traffic light racing, a set of Nittos drag radials on the rear will give you the best of both worlds, although you'll have to be a bit more cautious on wet roads (which you should be anyway, no matter what tires you have mounted on your F-body).
