I've only noticed this a few times in the last 2 or 3 months, but I noticed it this morning. When I shift from 3 to 4 sometimes it "catches" for just a split second, then it lets me into gear. This has only happened twice. The other thing that I've noticed is that sometimes when I'm rolling in traffic if I take out of fourth to neutral, I can't get back into fourth until I use third. If I try, it will grind.
This has only happened twice also. I've never forced it into gear, and immediately let off. I'm sure that I've had the clutch all of the way in during the traffic situations. I guess it's possible that it wasn't all of the way ingaged in the 3-4 shift. Maybe I was just a little quick on the trigger, but I know that wasn't the case in traffic. Any comments would help.
Thanks.

mine does that too. I'd like to know if it was my fault or if other people have the same problem.

I hate to be the one that tells you this, but your synchros could be damaged. I had the same problem in my 98 1LE SS and I took it into the dealership and they ended up replacing the WHOLE transmission. Thank God it was still under warranty.

Sounds like the syncos are definately getting weak. If you are out of warrantee, BG has a product called "SyncroShift" that is terrific in these situations. We use it in all sorts of road race cars and the improvement can be dramatic. They have a website, but I don't have the URL handy.

Well, it's still under warranty, but it only does it every once in a great while, and usually the mechanic at the dealership must experience the problem before they do anything about it. I've only got 29,000 on the car now, so I've got time to see if it'll get worse. I would think something like that be covered under an extended warranty also.
