Here's what I do, based on a suggestion from a member of the Camaro Club of San Diego:Put some Simple Green diluted about 4 to one with water in a spray bottle. Lightly spray the engime compartment components with this. Attach a nozzle on your garden hose that emits a light, fine spray and rinse.
Do not over do it. A light mist should do the trick. Use Zaino tire gloss in the black rubber and plastic parts.
Good luck. My engine still looks showroom clean after 12 K miles. I've cleaned the engine compartment twice in this manner.
