Saw in the financial section so I went to the GM Media site. Its true, America's oldest line has been killed by GM. Thats to bad, theres a lot of history there.

I thought something funky was going on when I took my Bravada in for service last week and the service advisor's card no longer said Oldsmobile on it...
I'm afraid that the handwriting's been on the wall for Oldsmobile for quite a while now. The closest thing they've done to anything exciting were the Bravadas of the late 92 and the 93 model years - and that's not saying much.
The changes they made to their flagship models completely removed the qualities that made them desirable in the first place. Just look at what happened to the Cutlass and the 98 over the years.
I see the same thing happening at Chevrolet - the current Impala and Monte Carlo stand as clear examples. The only thing that may save the Chevy brand for a while is their truck sales.

Not surprising. I had a discussion with an "insider" when an article on the new Aurora stated that "Oldmobile had sold over 100,000 Auroras since its' introduction" ... that's only about 20,000 a year ... and they are killing the F-body because at around 100,000 units A YEAR it is not profitable.
In a way it's too bad. Personally I like the current Oldmobile styling (except for the tail lights on the Alero). I suspect it will move some product over to Chevy, as in Canada anyway Chev/Olds and Pontiac/Buick/GMC is the standard dealership lineup with Cadillac at a very limited number of both.

I guess I'm an old fart trapped in a young guys body. I have two Buicks and, of course, my SS. My daily driver is a pretty decent '85 Riviera and my wife drives a '98 Park Avenue. They're great highway cruisers and most importantly, they're not ricers!

when i go to the two big car shows in the los angeles area the only people i see checking cars in the buick section are senior citizens. in itself nothing wrong with that as i am a sr myself but it indicates a dis- turbing trend.

Maybe Olds and Buick built too strong of a brand identity and that was/will be their undoing. They never catered to new groups of buyers. I liked the Alero and Auroura, so its too bad. Buick hasnt really done anything since the GN in the 80's so maybe they are next to go, those demographics are'nt promising. But they (GM) are in business to build cars that in turn pay dividends to shareholders, not be sentimental to platforms or brands that dont sell ( Fbody included )
