Enjoy Gatwick airport, the whole thing is a 2 story duty-free mall! Have a safe trip and make sure you have plenty of the local Vino!

People are rude here, of course.. everyones in a hurry...but so far we've enjoyed ourselves... (well, we havent killed each other yet) So... thats a good sign right?? Awesome sites to see... speaking of history.. went to a village in London called Highgate... where theres a cemetery.. Highgate Cemetery, Man... most of the graves were the out-of-ground type... Karl Marx is there, Christina Rossetti.. (poet) Man.. got some great pictures..! It was freezing and overcast.. perfect weather for this type of cemetery if you ask me! Nobody around, really.. Theres a lot to be seen, though.. we still have some time.. Take care, all..!

Ali, I can tell you & Ross are having a good time. I have wanted to take a trip over there for the longest time (mainly to Germany), but for some reason, I can't seem to get enough time off in September.
You have to post your pictures when you get back!!

I really don't advise doing this to ANY Europeans. I just got back to the states about a month ago. I lived in Germany for two years. During all my travels to countries (especially France and Britain) these people really believe that we just "tagged along" behind while they saved the world during WWII. And man if you try to tell them any different it will probably end up in a fist fight!!! No kidding either!!! Those people have alot more pride in their countries than we do about our own.
Bu the point is if you EVER have a disagreement with a European about something and think about bringing up that we "bailed them out" during the World Wars, it will probably just make matters MUCH worse.
But I agree, if we hadn't helped them, the French and British might well be speaking German today

See the 'Smiley' icon? Thats to indicate humour. As for me I am ex US Army Airborne who participated in REFORGER more times than I care to remember and who had a front row view during ODS that those are the facts and I dont doubt that we would again. And as you said ..."they believed we tagged along" Well go to any big Military cemetary in Europe ( one of the best is in Belgium) and look out on that sea of American graves. Being we were ABN INF our COL. liked to take us to all the ugly sites of those wars and let us stand in silence and absorb the price Americans paid for others. In StMarie Eglise I got to talk to French citizens and tell them how my grandfather was there that night and how greatful those folks were for it, so I dont have a problem 'correcting' them when they are wrong. Oh Ali, you and Ross have a good time and dont let em give you any shit!!! Oh yeah, you guys need to visit the board more often too !
Happy Holidays

Joe Asarisi I hear ya! Loud and Clear my friend. What you said is the absolute truth. I am an ex Army guy myself. I have no problem telling ANYONE that if it wasn't for the men and women serving this country to allow others (foreign and domestic)the freedom they enjoy today to move the hell out!
Take care.
Doug ps. Anyone heard if Alex Baldwin moved out of country yet??

Okay we're back in London... it kinda sucks to be here now cause the value of the dollar has gone down.. :( for Francs AND Pounds.. Sigh.. Anyways.. aside from that.. no snow.. at least.. not ON us.. we've seen it.. :) Hasnt rained lately..which is incredible..(for those of you that know London... no rain is a big thing..) Soo.. Teri's postcard will be on its way to her most definitely...I dont know how long mail takes to get across the seas... :)
As for planning our trip.. the airlines were booked through www.cheaptickets.com although www.lowestfare.com has been having EXCELLENT prices lately.. the hotels.. were booked through Hotel Reservations Network.. I Dont remember the web address.. but when I get it I'll put it up.. (you should be able to do a search and get the site) Most of the rooms were roughly between $125-$160 a night.. which isnt too bad for 3* hotels.. I dont think.. at least not over here.. the rooms are smaller than what the Americans are used to.. but theyre clean, and for the most part comfortable.. European hotels almost always have excellent bathrooms.. I think.. all marble and chrome or brass fixtures.. clean.. always clean towels.. yada yada...
International calling hasnt been that expensive either.. well.. I dont think.. (Im talking direct calling from hotel rooms..) It was about $10 for a 5-8 minute phone call to the states today.. (65 Francs) for reference..
Hard to come across comfortable restaurants in Paris.. unless its McDonalds.. (we ate there 3 nights in a row) :D And man.. was it GOOD.. the other nights we had pizza.. heh.. sad eh?? We also feasted on chocolate crossaints.. (pain au chocolat) Mmm..and Napoleons.. oh man.. good stuff.. Ross fell for the eclairs.. his favorite.. :) Soda is VERY expensive.. about $2 for a bottle roughly the same size as a can.. and.. there are NO free refills.. best bet is to buy sparkling water, or just plain mineral water.. :)
Okay..London is HOME to us.. man was it good to be reading english again.. (dont get me wrong.. they speak decent english in paris..but its just not the same..) Although the brits are RUDE.. with a big capital R.. we welcomed it.. English oh yeah.. we went to our favorite restaurant in all of London. Wagamama.. its a Japanese Noodle Bar.. Mmmm.. good stuff... (our 3rd or 4th time there) heh.. And now.. of course. in our favorite internet cafe.. EasyEverything.. £1 usually buys you about an hour of online time.. not too bad..
Last but not least.... MASS TRANSIT.. the Tube.. Londons subway system..is by far the bestest.. :) trains come every few minutes...its clean, its easy... its just plain nice.. whereas the Metro de Paris was basically... the 'Underground City of Piss'... it was BAD.. the trains had the stench of it.. the hallways.. the stairs.. piss everywhere.. you couldnt see it..but you could smell it.. and it was horrible.. the Metro also has a weird network going on..all twisty and winding..whereas Londons is all easy straight lines just going in different directions.. Okay.. hope this post wasnt too long.. we'll be back on Thursday!!! I reminded Ross that we start our classes up again in a week.. Hell Im even looking forward to college again..! Traveling wears you out..:) but we got some AWESOME pics..(both black and white AND color!) and I guarantee they'll be posted here.. :D Good memories were definitely worth all the lugging of heavy baggage.. Oh yeah..and TRAVEL LIGHT.. by all means.. PLEASE follow that one tip.. sheesh.. you can piss off a LOT of people just by blocking a doorway with a duffle bag.. heh.. :) Take care everyone.! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
