I've read somewhere that Toys R Us had them, but I checked one and couldn't find any. If anyone finds them, I'd like to buy one if you can get an extra. I'll keep looking too.

I was told that they were not meant to be released to the public, but I am not sure why. This is the only die cast Camaro with SS badges that I have ever seen. Maybe they didn't get approval to use the SS logo? Who knows...
I am a huge collector, and I have never seen them in the stores. The only place I have seen it is on eBay, and they don't go cheap.

Jason, So you are the one that I lost too. There was no way I was going to pay $50 for a matchbox car.I ended up winning the next one for $45, I wish I wasn't addicted to collecting camaro die cast.Unfortunately my g/f name is on the ebay account so she picked our user name-panyluver

Sorry you lost the auction. I tell you, that was a bitter fight. Tooth and nail with the other guy right down to the last second. I am still gald that I got it, though, even at that price. I saw that the same thing went for around $75 in another auction.
In the past 3 months, I spent $300 for one Camaro Hot Wheel ('95 Treasure Hunt) and another $200 on another (Zamac Camaro). I tell ya, I am out of control!

I just bought three for $80. I tried calling Matchbox and three other direct dealers, checked all over town, including two special diecast collector stores & have been all over the internet. E-bay is the only place that I found them. Unbelivable! The funny thing is that we created these high prices by bidding against each other. I said I wouldn't spend more than 20.00+s&h, but I guess 25.00+s&h isn't that far off. Too much for ANY matchbox car though.

Yep, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
I bought a set for $40. Like you said 98-mongooSSe, way too much for a Matchbox diecast. Buuuttttt, I have a black 2000 'Vert SS and I just had to have a set. Besides, I couldn't find one retail anywhere. I wonder where these people on ebay are getting them from.
One draw back ( in my case ) to the Matchbox Camaro SS 'First-off' is that the interior is 'neutral'. My SS 'Vert has Ebony leather. Can't have everything I guess.

Mine isn't a convt, but it is black with the tan leather, so I figured this was the best diecast of my car that I could get. Can you image what we'll do if they ever come out with a larger, more detailed diecast.
