I have a 00' SS and the other day when I was parking it I pulled the parking brake up and it didn't stop. I pulled it all the way till it was pointing straight up. I let it back down and tried it again and I haven't had the problem sinse. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Posts: 18 | From: Santa Clara, California, USA | Registered: Nov 2000

I had this happen a few times on my '98. It hasn't happened on my '00 though. I never really worried about it - it just isn't engaging or something. Just kind of a strange feeling when you rip your parking brake and it doesn't stop!

I've had this in all my F-bodies, my 1998 Firebird, and my 2000 WS6 Trans Am. The first time I thought I broke it but then I just put it back down and tried again and it worked. I have no clue why but it's just one if those things these cars do. I expect it to happen in my soon to be here SS but I would love if I decided not to do it.

This was asked about 2 years ago on the LS1.COM board virtually everyone had this happen to them at one point in th past. Only seems to affect the 98+ cars. My dealer was never able to reproduce it on demand, and they suggested that maybe I still ahd the brake completely depressed at the time. I doubt it. Migh be due to the drum-in-disc configurating of the parking brake in the 98+ cars.

This has been happening for about 6 months to me, but not conveniently to demonstrate it to the dealer. They suspect they will have to replace it when they see it in a couple of days. The darn thing feels like it is engaging that all of the sudden breaks free like the bite in the ratchet is lost or something. Warranty at worst.

My 2000 does it occasionally, my 93 Z28 did it too. It's bothersome, but I don't think it's a major problem.
