Guys,

Yesterday morning while washing my SS.. I noticed that my left front tire, a standard 275/40 Goodyear is bubbled out on the sidewall facing out away from the car. It looks like half of a golf ball is sticking out directly from the side.. I pushed gently in on it and there is nothing in there.. the tire has literally deformed.. The tire is still holding pressure and hasn't blown or anything but obviously I'm not driving it until I get this resolved... is this normal.. I've never seen a tire do this.. it seriously looks like a half golf ball sticking out the side of the tire.. will they replace this tire for free or is this some kind of faulty action on my part..??

Anything I should be aware of?

Yes. I used to live in Kansas, 35 years in Topeka/Lawrence, and I had a couple of those myself.
Sounds like a HERNIA to me. Prolly nothing you did but it sounds like the cords or "belts" in the tire separated enough to let the innards poke out kinda like an inguinal hernia in humans. If it be me, I wouldn't drive it unless you have to. Take it in for tire surgery. The tire guys should replace your tire a pro-rated warranty basis.

Diffinatly don't drive it... if you do it will probably blow!

I'm not sure what happened to the tire, but if I remember right I think it may have seperated I'm not a tire guy so I can't say forsure But diffinatly don't drive it unless its to the tire shop.

There is a separation inside your tire between the belts and the rest of the structure.

You definitely need to get it off the car. No hi-way speeds. If you're having to travel any more than 20 miles on surface streets, put on the spare.

They will pro-rate the tire when its replaced per the tread life that is left.

Be safe!

First thing I did after I bought the car was drive over to a Goodyear service outlet and get inssurance on the tires. By default their not on the OEM tires but you can buy it from any Goodyear shop and itèll insure the tires from defects.

I have always been told by tire guys that any bulge outward in a sidewall is not repairable and should be replaced immediately.

JR - they are all pretty much on the money, you've got a leak inside the "body" of the tire. Goodyear should replace it on a prorated basis unles you have hit something that caused the damage. The problem is, depending on the mileage, you may not want to have one new tire, if the rest are in real good shape it shouldn't matter.

JR, Page Kenc on the SLp board. He can help you out.

They should replace the tire no matter what, it's defective, it should not even get prorated.

That happened to me, my right rear blew the side wall out only doing 45 mph, I had just cleaned the car o take a ride and saw nothing wrong with the tire. It just blew out and had a 2 inch slice in the side wall. I took it to the goodyear dealer and they could'nt tell why it did it so they prorated the tire and then I purchased the insurance for all the tire's. Good Luck !
